Look what I picked up today at the freight dock. I also bought the front and rear frame tie ins. I also received my bushings that will weld up to the tie ins. That will be my next project since I need to complete all my welding to the frame before I can blast and paint it.

I believe this fan will come on every time you exceed the "cutoff" temperture on the thermistor(located on the intake) after the engine(warmes up) has been running then turned off. After fan comes on it runs off a timer. So after warming up, cycling the engine on and off will cause the fan to come on everytime. You can ohm out he thermistor and see if it's "open" when the engine is cold...if not may want to replace it. Nice looking engine by the way. Sorry for the high jack.

the only thing i notice is that the carb fan comes on A LOT after I shut down.

carb cooling fan first showed up in either the '75 or '76 Cali-spec models. I think it became standard (and moved to the fender) in '78 or so.

That looks awesome. I'm guessing not so much going on with it today. :)

Do you want a carb cooling fan? We've got a surplus one I can toss in the box with the steering knuckle tool if you'd like...

Hey Dan, thanks! Carb Fan? What exactly does a carb fan do? All this snow is putting a damper on my build!

It blows air over the carb, generally when the truck is stopped to prevent vapor lock. I always noticed ours coming on while sitting at idle and shortly after shutdown when it was hot out.

Sure a Carb Fan would be nice. Not sure when I am going to get a chance to work on this thing again since work is stacking up, but I would definitely be interested in that carb fan and possibly talking you into helping me weld up the frame ties.

And for the record those are my terrible looking welds not Dan's ! Thanks again for the help and getting me started with tie in's. A little daunting for a first time metal fabrication. I am pretty happy with the results. After all this thing is a FJ40 not a race car! I think the cage with the tie in's make this thing stout as all hell!

For the carb fan to work as designed, you will also need a temperature sensor and thermo switch that you'll have to wire in. Easier way is to have a toggle switch that you can turn on when you feel like it. I've honestly never had a need for the carb cooling fan, even on 90+ degree days in the mountains and 100+ degree days in Denver :meh:

A slight intermission

Well I have been out of town for work for the last few months and the cruiser has been collecting dust. I am back in town and back at it with the pedal to the metal. I wanna get this puppy up and running so I can enjoy a little bit of summer driving in it. With out further ado, Here is the porn! I got the rear end blasted and painted with Chassis Saver. Turned out pretty good, but not show quality:meh:
