Tons of Subarus in the parking lot but also a few old Datsuns, Rallys Porsches and Rally Toyotas made it out also.

So it was 12:15. As in, 15 mins past midnight on our last night at the beach. And I was dozing off and so was my wife. The boys were still awake and woke us up and said the house was full of smoke. Look for source, figure it out - it’s the hot water heater element and it’s belching flames. No smoke detectors no extinguisher in this rental so we have to call 911 and get the 5 kids 2 dogs out. They send the cops first, then 4 trucks including the ladder truck. Charge the hoses and spray down the fire and put it out. So about an hour later we’re in another rental house down the street trying to sleep. Still got the smell of burning insulation in my nose. Hopefully I get some sleep because tomorrow at 9am I head home, hook up the trailer and head to CRR. Jesus. I’m gonna be tired. Never a dull moment.

Wowzah!!

How did you find another house to rent at that hour?

On a positive note, that should turn out to be a full refund - I'd insist. No smoke detectors / extinguishers is deplorable in a rental and (not that I would personally) would expose that company to a major lawsuit. We trust these places to ensure our safety.

Little rally action from the Olympus rally today.

I'll be at the action tomorrow for day #2, had too much gardening and yard work to do today and need to finish off a report.

First ARA event in the books and while WRC it is not, it was a blast with a huge mix of basically stripped stock cars to highly modified factory backed cars.

Just got back from the Olympus Rally........ fine dirt and grit everywhere. Have over 800 (no joke) pics and videos i'm making my way through. I will post more pics in my change of venue thread to not clog up this one. Here are a few pics from the pits this morning till I get the others on.

DECLARATION: I hereby declare that the roof top tent is the MAN BUN of the overlanding world.

There is so much to consider here. As someone who studies the great works of @Izzyandsue, I feel that we should really go through this and understand the deeper meanings.

Let us "prove" this out through critical thoughts and comparison:
  • If one is too "heavy" or limited physically in other ways, it makes BOTH not work well. CHECK
  • A beard is required, in some form, to do both correctly. CHECK
  • Long hair is required, just like having an Overlanding vehicle to begin with. CHECK
  • The man bun can be seen as frivolous. Some may think the same of the RTT. CHECK
  • The RTT protects you from bears? Samson surely wore a man bun from time to time . . . Without his hair, he lost his strength. Once you cut your hair, you are going to lose a lot of power and skillz. CHECK

LOL, next time you see Heather (Heather Stanley) ask her about a man bun, far too politically incorrect for me to type here.

I like my roof top bun for camping but I don't like to ride around with it on the roof any more than I have to. I have fashioned an automatic roof bun removal device that allows me to leave the bun hanging in the shop and drive around looking normal most of the time. So in my case, I'd say the RTT is more like a mullet than a man bun. Business up front and party in the rear. I'm all business most of the time but when I decide that it's party time, the roof bun gets re-attached and out comes the tequila. I embrace the mullet. Ben Franklin wore one so it can't be all that bad.

I want the Go Fast Pop Up camper for the Tacoma. Its like a Top Knot and a Mullet had a baby:

Thoros sported that:

My Wife is like The Hound, though, smashing my dreams of a pop-up camper shell:

"You think you're foolin anyone with that top knot? Bald . . " - - - The Hound.

Of course she is right, but still fun to play this out.

I did interview a bear, he said his buddies refer to rooftop tents as “high dining”. But spending 4 days in LA, have seen so many man buns....these are very complicated men. Other declarations will follow
