There truly does need to be a way of getting our engineering kids (All STEM majors for that matter) into the "field". I asked a friend of mine that is a project manager at Volvo Truck what he sees coming out of college .... "sad" he said. Kids being hired with ME degrees that have never been under the hood, much less solved a real problem.

Now if only I could get a class set of refrigerators for my lab. <--- truth is, my class set of 18" x 36" plywood shelves do just great.

Heres where I was with my kid last week...Theres a video embedded in there. Presentations made by aviation high schools in Michigan, Seattle, and Lakeland, FL, were very impressive. The lunchtime speaker was Barrington Irving, who was a football player in Liberty City, round Miami. Saw an african american airline pilot who walked over to him, and changed his life. If you ever get to see, read, watch, or hear him, he is quite a trip. This guy has it going on with regards to STEM programs, and prepackaged STEM coursewear from his globetrotting adventures.. In other words, Sarah pretty much has you figured out.

Interesting close call to carnage on day 2 of a trip last week. Managed to weld my battery tie down hook to the inner fender

Have had an issue with batt negative clamp rattling lose twice recently resulting in a no start after shutdown.

Last week I was heading up gravel to the BRP when truck cut off and back on twice lighting up the dash momentarily. Now I have had my cutoff issues but I thought I had those at bay for now and suspected the batt cable again. Got up to the parkway and inspected and found a different surprise.

Somewhere along the washboard I managed to lose the pass side batt tie down j hook. Where it went I don't know as it should have fallen inside batt box.

Anyhow the batt slid to driver side simultaneously forcing the other j hook into fender and other side of tie down strap to rise and make contact with the winch pos cable fuse block. Whoops

And what's worse @Rice laughed at me months ago for this potential disaster and offered me some electrical tape for the ride home but I simply raised the winch circuit breaker vs re routing in a safer manner.

This was just a week after finding concretes winch cable ends wore through and grounded out melting his pos lead and the winch housing :(

Sooooo a reminder its worth checking your electrical connections and routing occasionally. We both got lucky.

Note three wraps of electrical tape is not enough to prevent arcing lol

Oh snap! That's a good PSA right there.

And people wonder why we look at battery tie-downs during the inspection :D

Oops. So i shouldn't mention there was a 80 and a Lexus out front?
Ok, good you didnt see the 62 and the 40. I am safe ;-)

We still have Tyler's in Apex.

surely been posted before but always a good chuckle. What say we load 7 men in a 40 with gear and see if we can hit 85 mph at the christmas party ?!?

ok and enlighten me..... 9 forward and 3 reverse combos??? 4spd hi and low... i see 8 and 2 where are the others? factory fairy OD ???

3 speed x 2H,4H,4L

Even Toyota's marketing folks can hype the sh-t out of things.

Not sure I want to run 85mph in a 40 all day long ... 85kmh maybe ;)

3-speed x 3 options
2H
4H
4L

**beat me to it...

I believe they are defining forward gears differently than you and I ..... more accurate would be to say 9 forward "combinations"

1,2,3 in 2Hi
1,2,3 in 4Hi
1,2,3 in 4Lo

Edit ... damn, was I that slow?

Which may also explain the 85 MPH!

55 MPH in 2Hi + 30 MPH in 4Lo.
