Was thinking about this recently. For a 62 you could get a 2004 - 2007 sprinter engine. Inline 5cyl 2.7 turbo and get the harness and computer etc as well as the 4wd sprinter transmission. Transplant that into a 62 and have a really slick diesel setup. In my 140” we sprinter when empty I see mpg in the 26-28 range. Towing a car in a trailer is 18-20. Full in back about 24-25.

Anyone know of an east coast shop that has done an OM606 swap into an FJ60/62? Looking to go diesel, but can't see overspending on an underpowered (in my opinion) Cummins R2.8. Thanks

No east coast shop has done one yet to my knowledge, I'd love to be the first though. Agreed on it being a better option then the 2.8. Not sure what the obsession with that motor is

I think the obsession is that it’s new and shiny and for just a small pile of monies it arrives in a box. But yeah you have to want one to go that route. I’m happy with the 2F...it came with the truck and I’m good with it

I’ve seen some

Agree. Seen some guys quoting 30-40k all in for the R2.8. Looking at the numbers a tuned OM606 produces and with that reliability, I’m sold. Seen some OM606s out there at a reasonable price. While I love the bulletproof 3FE, It’s nerve racking at times planning your highway merges! I’m ready for some more power and I’m going to begin sourcing the heart transplant sooner than later. If anyone else is taking this project one, please let me know. Would love to compare notes. Thanks everyone.

I have a shop in central FL and would be happy to help!

Any update on the adapters? I've got e300 with a 606 sitting behind my shop I've been waiting to find an adapter for...

Bringing up an old thread again.
Very nice work. This looks to be an amazing engine, the 2jz of diesels.

Only question is how does this thing get registered in CA? Post ‘98 smog required. Pull all the electronic injection bits and swap to the mechanical good stuff, no way this would pass..

Edit#2
After some research with a friend, it seems all you have to do is get an engine fuel change form from the dmv and go for the inspection to get pre smog. Even if the engine is 98+.
Different rules for diesel swaps. But I do not have personal experience doing this. So don’t take my word for it.
However, there is a thread on here where valley hybrids did a 1hz swap in an 80 I believe that was registered pre smog...

Personally, I wouldn't think the effort was worth
it unless you installed an OM 648. If you want torque, you want that motor. 648 would eat the tires up on an E Class. 617, 601,2 and 3, well, not so much. 606? yawn. I'm an MB tech since the 1978 300 SD came out
YAWNing about a OM606? LOL. 700 HP on stock internals is no yahwning matter. 300 400 500 hp super easy. Im running 275HP mechanical pump on mine. Mine is for on and off road work. Also it only needs one 12 volt wire to run it. 100% Mechanical and super reliable in fact its the most reliable Diesel engine made. Even more so when you swap in a mechanical pump. Not sure where you are getting your info from but its wrong.

I’ve read multiple articles and haven’t seen any details on the wheels. I’d love to know more about that fitment. What’s offsets, width, any other clearance issues?
