fwiw, the rear access is a PITA for regular access but allows for lots of clearance on the trail.

TT's this month had an article on a 40 rear that the guy used a small electric winch to swing it up and down....

Oh? I better go and actually read it this time instead of just looking at all the pretty pictures. It's like penthouse eh? It has articles?

One of these days when its slow at work I'll play with some designs similar to yours, but still allow a side swing out for normal rear cargo access.

shucks, y'all (them'all?) does good work. SOCAL is a bit of a stretch for me, but thanks for the linky.

.......hmmm.....metal-tech is in the same kind of biz-nitz, :hhmm: and much closer........:hhmm:

I wonder what kind of fabricator idea sharing is cool, and why not have the guys closer to me do a custom tire carrying bumper when I get the sliders......(eventually) hmmmmmmmmm.....

LT has lots of pics of mine and built a front one very similar, I would give them a call too, I have lots of MT stuff and its very well done.

I like that bumper, ElectricDyck. Any more pics?

eta: nm, I found your thread on it.

thanks.

My hack job.

Chopped 1/4's with removable bumper wings and relocated oe receiver with a swing down tire gate thing. Decent clearance, almost free to build and best of all it hasnt fallen off yet..

Can you post more about how you did the swing down carrier?

I'd like to design a removable swing down carrier so that I can pop the spare in for wheeling and long trips, but not carry it around for daily work. I need to free up my roof rack, and I don't want anything to do with a swingout that I have to mess with all the time and a spare that is always blocking my view.

Pics of my bumper that I had made. The exhaust pipe has since been trimmed back to now reside slightly under the bumper. It was sticking out after taking several inches off the frame. The shackle mounts actually go through he bumper and are welded directly to the frame.

Nay,

The carrier build is in my "93 80 Beater" thread.

I made it before a road trip so the spare wouldnt be in the cargo area. Since I had trimmed my frame it wouldnt fit under the truck anymore, we came up with what you see.

Its made up of 3 tubes, 2 builders sets from diy4x4 (main pivot bushings/sleeves), six 1/4" tabs, a wack of 1/4" gussets, and 2 hitch pins.. basically a bunch of crap I had in the garage. The tire is held on by a threaded rod/homemade wing nut.

For easy removal you could substitute 2 more hitch pins in place of the main pivot bolts.

Another guy wants rough measurements so Ill post em up when it stops snowing.

Cool, thanks.

I will probably build something off the integrated (welded between the rails) hitch I now have under the tube. If I could mount it with two bolts and lock with two hitch pins, and it would swing down I'd have what I needed.

Appreciate the info.

We Custom Made this bomper with my Brother, we had in cosideration this:
-Not to be bulky.
-Add some protection to the rear sides.
-As slim as possible.(we had to incrust the hitch receiver)
-2 Recovery points.

These are the results.

After seeing D's job on this bumper, I decided to give it a go. I also decided that I would use some beefier hinges. Pretty much going to try and copy his hinges from DIY 4x4 with a plastic bushing, bolt sleeve and bolt, zerk, etc. Here is what I have on hand. Will post more as the build progresses:
