That does look really clean without swingouts or spindles, but what are you doing for spare tire storage?

This works for me

Sorry to segway, but where is the handle to open the "hospitol doors?" Can you please show us.

Ahhh now I get you and we just bought a second handle because we wanted to put a reversing camera on and cause it looks neat

Is that a jerry can inbetween your window and the spare? Did you attach a carrier to the third seat bracket or something? That looks nice and clean. I think I found my new setup. Thanks.

Yes it a plastic water jug. The set-up is very simple and secure with quick removal of the tire if you need space or the tire out. Two rachet straps from the floor to the 3rd row bracket. Another member in our local club has used the same system on a 37 for a couple years with no issues at all, the set-up is very solid and the price is right.

do you have a tray for the jug or is it just wedged in between the window and the tire? Either way, I hope you don't mind me copying you.

The jug sets on top of my winch accessories bag to get it above the wheel well:hillbilly: and the tire presses it against the side panel, no window contact. I also have a quickie tie down hold it from going forward or back.

Should be for sale early in Jan next year. Pricing is $1295 for the bumper, $645 for the tire carrier and $445 for the ladder carrier. Carriers can be purchased separate.

Definitely needing one of these! Thank you for making these Christo. :)

Question on all these bumpers with swing out tire carriers etc; can the swing out be removed easily (lifted off w or w/o the spare attached)?

I ask because I'm constantly going in and out of my back hatch and if I had to swing out the tire every time I wanted something in the back I'd go nuts. So for cruising around town in the middle of the week etc is it feasible to have the swing out removed, then when I go camping or on long hauls I can re-mount the spare?

You could probably remove most of the spindle mounted swings in about 5-10 minutes or less with the right tools. Many of them are like our cruiser hubs, a lock ring and nut, then cone shaped bearings, with a grease cap on top of it.

Though, I would suggest finding a design that is very quick and easy to open and close, because your pretty much guaranteed to get a flat as soon as you take it off...

I have finally bit the bullet and removed the spare from the roof rack - with four kids and now two large dogs, I have bought a larger track (Thule Moab basket) and worked with a local fabricator to build a swingdown carrier.

I built a swingdown because I use my 3rd row full time and rarely need access to the hatch, and even then only the upper hatch - it was much simpler with a tube bumper and only $300.

We built a slide mount to allow raising and lowering of the spare - I can keep it lower for highway visibility and easy trails, and raise a few inches for more technical runs if desired.

It does not rattle or shake at all, very pleased with it, although I have to provide a design nod to Darwink, who built a swing down as well.

Your truck matches your garbage cans :flipoff2:

The tire carrier looks good. I use my tailgate too much to ever give it up, but I'm also not chasing every last inch of clearance :D. Different strokes for different folks! A spindle and latch would only add another $100 or so, but it doesn't look like there is enough room to mount a spindle by your taillight since the tube is nicely tucked against the body, so this seems like a good alternative.

That tire looks heavy. Make sure you eat your wheaties!

Can you still open your tailgate? Also are you able to lift your tire onto the mount if needed?

Dont get a lot of photo radar tickets with that bumper eh? :p

Nope - tailgate won't open with the way we built the latch mounts, but I don't open mine since I have spares behind the 3rd row. I could have built a latch point off the hitch and will do so if I need to provide access to the tailgate again.

I can lift the tire up onto the mount - it's not much fun, but sure beats putting it up on the roof.

Good point about the roof:doh: I had to ask because I could not get my 130lb 37" Swamper on the carrier of my old 80 alone. looks like it will work well for you.
