Ok, what happened? Harmonic Balancer?

I got the 1/4" on the hidden bolts, so I know I can get them. Found the coolant pump had a rough bearing and ordered an ASIN replacement which arrives tomorrow. Radiator comes out tonight and a friend will help tomorrow on the crank bolt.

Since I do not have the elegant holder tool you guys make, I am going with using a deep 14mm in the transmission window. Home Depot looks like they have a Memorial Day Sale on for a big impact gun....

Ok, I cobbled together this crude holder for the crank bolt. In elegant by the standards of this group, but it actually got the job done. 4' black iron pipe on my breaker bar and the thing yielded with a bit of effort. My torque wrench only goes to 250 ft. pounds, so I got it there and used the breaker bar and pipe to go a bit more.

The water pump arrived and the idlers were replaced.

The only issue I am a bit stumped on it the shroud is back on the radiator, it seems to be in the correct spot as th bolts align, but it is touching the fan at about 3 o'clock looking from the front of the car. Ideas would be appreciated.

The outer ring on the old HB was almost halfway off.

It was fine with the new one - I filled the gap between the flat steel and the M8 holes with washers. Bent the snot out of the bolts I used on the old one. Should have put some sort of spacer in that gap. But, I got away with it this time.

Kind of happy with the day, feel much better about the car with this behind me.

Looks pretty damn elegant to me.
Very simple solution. Way to think outside the box

Sounds like you got it worked out but FWIW IME it helps to not fully tighten down the lower radiator brackets before lowering the rad down onto the lower isolators/cushions. Allows some wiggle to get the radiator in place.

Ah! thank you. It seems to me that is where there is some slack in what is other wise a very tight fit.

Maybe I am not taking th front end apart again.....I appreciate the insight.

Man I wish I checked in on this thread a couple days ago. I would have said to absolutely not reuse the rubber hoses for your tranny lines at the radiator--at a minimum I would thoroughly check them for soft spots/abrasions/cracks. Those tend to get neglected and the stress they go under during radiator removal and install is often the last straw for them. I learned this lesson brutally when they let go on the way to moab, the day after a radiator replacement, and ended up ruining the paint on the entire car.

I take your point.

I am ordering 32941-60110 which is the inlet side hose

The outlet side is discontinued, but nothing special. Any recommendations from experience?

Also, how do I get the correct clamps?

I am going back in later to replace the transmission fluid so I will do these at that time....

Thanks for your comment, I was uncomfortable with the existing hoses anyway and am assembling a long list for hoses to be replaced in an order from Amayama.

....Now I have to figure out my fan shroud issue and get the belts tight.

You are so correct, someone had put two clamps on the passenger side. I took one off thinking it was sloppy and sure enough it leaked. I have to do tranny fluid anyway …. That hose is discontinued, need to figure out size…

Gates Transmission hose might work. It’s available from Napa cut to length. I used it on my rad replacement form the tranny fluid cooler that I added when I changed out the old leaking rad.

I have made the mental decision that the 7 transmission lines are my next mini-project. Wish I understood what was required when the radiator was out, but it will be easier next time......

Thanks!

My "worry" is why were the two hose clamps? Why did it take two to stop the leak? Is it a bad hose? Or is th nipple coming off the radiator bad? The second clamp did stop the leak.

I have been reading this as a reference on the transmission lines.... Need to see which lines are available from Toyota though, the one I was dealing with is not.

I would guess the second clamp is someone's attempt to seal a leaking hose.

Better to use metric hose when replacing the transmission lines.

The original transmission cooler hoses were 10mm ID. The majority of aftermarket hoses are 9.5mm (3/8") ID. Some that say they're 10mm are actually 9.5mm IME. IIRC someone may have found a source for true 10mm hose, try a search on the forum.

The critical dimension is the OD of the hose, otherwise the stock clamp may not give enough squeeze for a good seal. There are however multiple sizes of OEM hose clamps, the hard part, if you want to stick with a Toyota clamp, is finding the one that will work with the aftermarket hose you use.
