my 3.3:1 low range gears are installed, and the only other thing I'd like to do prior to FC this year is make the rear sway bar brackets attach better. See you next week! :)

I’ll be doing what I always do and procrastinate until the night before I leave to pack everything up. Will be there Thursday late afternoon.

I’ll be bringing some fire wood and beer to share as well.

Dad's Chili is made and ready to go.... my toiletry bag is packed.....yea that's about as far as I am right now I hope to get things planned and packed slowly this week for next week.
Not sure how much wheeling I will do but I am looking forward to the peace of the woods and relaxation

Looks like @An3 and I will both be shotgunners on this trip...his transfer case has been giving him a fit...time to convert to a beefier case option. Upgrade will be without clutches and full 4wd (high or low) when that's what you want.

I'm hardly able to get my trailer ready, much less the cruiser. the 80 will be sheltering in place for this one...

Hey @imperium - don't bring the firewood, we are picking up a half cord on Wednesday, that is plenty for the weekend. Bring more beer lol

So……what’s the story here?

Any tools and spares should I maybe toss in my truck just in case? :)

Intake gasket failure leading to lean condition under load/backfiring/stalling on hills plus a bit of a miss at idle. It was way worse in cold weather, and mostly not an issue this summer but I figured I should probably get it fixed before I drive this turd all the way to Virginia.

Fairly certain the failure was self-inflicted - I blocked the exhaust crossover under the carb with the intake gasket and the exhaust made a new exit after a few thousand miles.

The intake itself is fine it’s just an old “fuel economy” intake (Edelbrock SP2P). Theoretically, small runners mean more torque, but I decided to put an Edelbrock performer on this time and see if it makes a difference. If it winds up having to be wound up real high to make power the SP2P will go back on. Fall crawl will be the shakedown run.

If you’ve got a whole spare truck I can use to get into town and buy parts, that would help, 😉 just ask Gary about the time I stole his Subaru to buy a battery in Winchester…

You shouldn’t loose anything with the performer. Make sure your timing is set properly and that intake should give you fine low end.

Many of us will have tow rigs that can detach and run into town if needed.

Got it mostly back together yesterday. We’ll see if it actually sealed up. So far I’m at a 50% success rate on intake installs. Or 0% since the last one only made it a couple years… (this will be number 3).

Planning on leaving here Tuesday to camp out a couple of days beforehand. Any recommendations? Was debating between giving Shenandoah NP a chance (not sure what to expect with the shutdown), Shenandoah River State Park, Hungry Mother State Park, and Douthat State Park. Open to other ideas......

Just a reminder... Friday night I will be serving up a batch of chili with the fixings ( sour cream, spring onion, shredded cheese and corn chips ) at my tent area... please swing by for a bowl!
It'll be cool/cold evenings make sure to keep yourself warm with some extra gas power!
