Have done a ton of reading, and asked a lot of questions. Consensus is that while the compression numbers aren't good, they aren't the issue here, and the engine should run, though not ideally, as is. So engine swap on hold for a minute anyway.

Also just had a really long, really good conversation with Bob at TPI about the blowback issue, and he gave me 3-4 really good things to try. And if all those failed strongly suggested that I go back to a Toyota dizzy. He is 100% confident that the weber will be fine with all other components in proper working order and configuration.

Circle of craziness continues.
 
Get it running and able to move on its own power. Build your shop. Then let the v8 swap be the first project for the new shop.

That is currently the plan.

It is tuned and running (idling) like a top right now...smoke free.

Can't figure out exactly how to mount the damn weber pedal though. Need to get that in there so I can drive it proper, put it under load etc.
 
Yeah and I keep forgeting to take that dang pic! Sorry man. I'll try to get one for ya.
 
Get em running right and drive em till they quit. Screw all this testing...
