After seeing all the '40s at SCC this year I kind of caught the fever, and have been looking casually at options.

Couple questions though, since you guys are the experts.

Are any year models better or worse than others?

Any gotchas to be looking for (outside of the normal used truck stuff)?

Any other advice would be appeciated!

here is some light reading.

I would shop for 76 and up so you get disc brakes, 4 on the floor.

older trucks have better metal (60s), newer trucks have better safety and options (70s-83)

watch out for quarter panels (esp. if covered in diamond plate), check rear sill ..tend to rust bad...ask me how I know.... PS is a good ad on or if factory on late late models. I have a saginaw and it's great.

ive only had mine a year..some other guys will chime in with much more

starting to have sellers regret and it's still in the garage...

Told ya. You think it's bad now, wait til it's gone. :frown:

Thanks for all the fast replies.

Buy Shush's. Nice truck, priced right.

Saint, get this truck. I would if I was in position to.

I've definitely been eyeballing Shush's truck, but I'm afraid it will be gone when I'm finally ready to pull the trigger. If I follow my normal vehicle buying pattern, i'll shop/analyze/change my mind for the next 6 months (took me at least that long to settle on my 100 series). I know his will be gone by then.

mine is off the market.....

dodged a bullet

Need more info, you wheeling or dd....

Definitely not DD. Mostly recreational, some wheeling, but not heavy.

Guys, still looking.

Even though i know the answer already, have to ask: thoughts on the stock engine vs one that's had a Chevy/350 put in? Seems to be about half and half when I'm searching...

Thanks,

That one that is listed in Memphis that is in the '40 thread in the Memphis area sounds like a great truck.

I know South is on it, but I think it is for the club, not for him. I may be wrong.

I would rather have a 2F truck and do the swap myself. Tons of V8 swaps are terrible and lots have carbs and old TBI motors. A good Gen III/IV V8 is CHEAP now and a much better bang for the buck.

If you get a V8 truck, just make damn sure its not a hack job with a crap motor.

Get what you want and not what others say.

I'm willing to accept unsolicited opinions from these experts/pundants about "how" I should build my rig when they start paying for my upgrades. Until that time, they can keep their mouth shut.
