Thought you weren't supposed to touch it till the 40 was done??!!

I couldnt get the part I needed on the 40 till today, So I thought I would dabble a little, Besides I about froze my @$$ off on the way home with the rear window open a few inches.
Naughty me :p

I would try a washing machine.
Looks like I will be off to the laundry mat...My wife would kill me if I washed them in ours

Thanks Ige, Yes I did feel cool! I couldn't tell if it was the rig or me driving 55 on an 80MPH stretch of I-15 :hhmm: But like I said before, I drove quite well, Fairly straight, Not real bouncy, I did hit a huge pot hole that almost threw me into the side barrier :steer:

Any idea if the air rail could have caused any damage?

3_puppies, I checked, IIRC its has a June of 74 tag on the B-pillar, Sorry I didn't take yours wen you offered, It just wasn't the right time and it was a bit further away.
Color? The only thing I can tell is it was white, But I dont quite know otherwise, I will check later, I got home in the dark and my garage lights aren't the best.
Thanks all

Having the air rail capped wouldn't cause any damage. I'd suggest removing it all together and installing some plugs. It will look nicer. Toyota has plugs for this or you can get some that will work ok from a hardware store. It was capped probably because it was desmogged.

Forgot to ask about this?

emission stuff?

Yes. Remove it and cap. Unless you need the emissions equipment.

Thanks Lou!

What are anyone's thoughts on cleaning the seat belts, Dish washer or washing machine?

Washing machine. I'd do it at home and not at the laundromat. You need a washing machine that is vertical. Put each belt in a sock.

Never put fabric in a dishwasher. Especially if your using the dishwasher detergent. It contains chlorine and can bleach the fabric. Though the nylon probably won't it's not good for the metal and can inhibit rust.

Timing was set at 10 degress probably because of the desmog. I see a lot of people recommend to advance the timing after a desmog.

Thanks Marshall.
Im fairly certain I will need the smog stuff, I called Kurt @ Cruiseroutfitters about some items last night , I need to call today when he is home so he can see what he has.
Bummer on the vertical Washing machine...We have a front loader style, I figured with the type we have it would be making ALL sorts of racket, Thats why I was trying to avoid upsetting my wife :ban:
Thanks again

emission stuff?

yep, air rail

congrats bri...glad you got it! welcome to pigdom

how did it feel driving it home? did you feel oddly cool?

What's the piece of metal laying on top of the fuel line for?

Congrats Brian, you'll be the guest of honor for the annual Pig's Run this year. We ran it for 3 years, skipping last year as we didn't have any pigs around.

think Toyota went to the "high" bump hood when they went to the 2F engine; our 74 1 1/2 also has the "flat" hood.......the high hood with a 1 1/2 motor in a 74? :hhmm: maybe a PO replacement;

Lou

last pic doesn't show up???

interesting, high hood with F &1/2, mine's(soon to be bluerock's) an early 74 and doesn't have the high hood.

Figured someone would pick that up when it was posted.

any idea on the original color?

Good luck with it!

Could be, Ive noticed they did a lot of things to their liking...
BTW that hood oilcans to no end, Is there anyway to fix that with some framework and body glue/adhesive?

Today, I get to pick up plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters and rear window gear, But I have a lot to finish on the 40, So perhaps another day

Lou did a write up using 2 sided tape, i think. seemed to work well for him.

Thanks I will search, I didnt see anything that might be missing, But who knows.

I think it was last summer sometime. The frame work seems to come loose from the actual metal of the hood. I think they originally used dabs of glue like material. someone else will know what to call it.

This is happening to my 62 series right now. I need to fix it shortly.

the "flat" hood on our 74 was "oilcanning" badly; toyota originally had some sort of glue; used double sided high temp bonding strips and they have been working well since........wrote about it last summer and have pix at home; will try to repost this evening HTH;

Lou

Thanks Lou.
I noticed last night that the main structure across the hood has separated and there is about a 1/2 gap, Im sure thats the reason, But I would like to see what you came up with.
Thanks again

Well...
I had a slight catastrophe today, I was trying to figure out why the rear heater wasnt working, I unbolted it and thinking it had rubber heater hoses and could move it without much ado...I found out the hard way that it indeed has hard lines and the rubber connecting hoses gave way when I mover the heater about 6 inches...:bang:
It didnt help that I had it running to get it up to temp.
Anyone want some rear heater hard lines?
Needless to say, I replaced all the heater lines, I will get to the radiator hoses soon, I added a overflow tank as well.
I did manage to get the rear window working with a new gear, I lubed it all up nicely with lithium grease.
The rear heater motor wasnt working because it hadnt been used in some time and the little piece that holds the brushes on the armature had broken, Lucky for me, I had a FJ60 rear heater and it had an identical motor, The only differences were the 60 has a 2 pin plug and a threaded end on the armature, But it bolted right in! now both heaters are working, That is one thing my wife said is I had to fix before we could all go for a ride.
Last night I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air filter

Cool deal - sounds like good work.

What did you do for rad overflow?

Just a $10.00 little kit from Autozone.
This is actually the old one from the 40, I bought a new one for the 40 yesterday, The old one kinda fits in with the rest of the oldness...So to speak.
I dont know what use to be bolted there, But it worked out nicely.
