That carpet was also in the back area with snaps etc. also, the guy I got it from said he did not get a key when he picked up the cruiser from a friend in Albuquerque. Ah ha, just needed to clean all the crap out of the floor boards. Lastly, would like to meet Tom some day and get his story on this 40. Found his name badge under the carpet.

Ha! Have you read my story "The Ghost in the Machine "?

You might not want to hear any of Tom's 40 stories.....

Have not Mark. Will look that one up.
Has this taken care of you needing the upper part of the doors?
If you're referring to the 76 needing an upper part I have picked up a top and barn doors off a 77 model. I'll be good there except I need to source a period correct windshield frame. The later top does not match up with the earlier windshield frame. Let me know if I'm missing the mark. Thanks. Jim

Livin the dream Texas!

I have a similar (maybe the same) carpet set in the basement that came with my 2nd 74 from Washington state. The body was swapped out for an earlier vintage (with under seat tool box) due to rust before I got it years ago so I never saw in installed in the truck. It has the snaps in the corners of the rear piece... I will dig it up and get back to you. But I don't think it was a factory original part. Does that 74 have a 4 speed or 3 speed transmission? Both of mine are 10/73 production and have 3 speeds.
HTH,
Will

Man Don I thought it was "California Dreaming" :). You west Coast guys have that beautiful year round weather. We just have a ton of open
Will, thanks for the reply. Would like to see how the carpet compares. Could be from SOR or some other vender that was around back in the 80's. This one is a 4-speed. Have not looked at the VIN yet. Funny thing is that's usually the first place I go. But this rig was so deep in rats nests etc. that I was too excited about seeing what was under all that crap

Nice project, on the white one you could always cut up a donor fj60 for the axles and little parts, unless you were trying to go all stock,

on the sheet metal we use our local powder coat guy for sand blasting, saves alot of time and you get nice clean stuff back to deal with. I have fixed several hoods and fenders with a torch, body hammers and a shrinking disk, the aftermarket fenders are almost as much work as fixing the stock ones.

welcome to the addiction...

Rayjon, I will use some 60 parts to upgrade the 74 to disk, but other than that and power steering I'll go mostly stock. I'm not an expert on body work, but do enjoy the challenge. I've used heat and hammers but need to learn about the shrinking disk. Not sure I've seen that before. Thanks for the post. Jim

It took me a few days to remember, but the carpet kit predates SOR. That kit was sold by Bestop.

When I purchased my 70 FJ40 from the original owner I acquired all his old Toyota items. Some of which was from when his brother had a Toyota dealership in the mid sixties. Had dealer and retail pricing for many US made options. One of those was carpet kit for the 40 series. In 1974 after purchasing my first Land Cruiser I visited Man-A-Fre, Downey and Hicky. Believe one or more offered a carpet kit for the 40 series. Still have the catalogs from that trip. Better yet just ask @JohnnyC.
