They were popular in the vw (bug) scene in the 80s/90s. I thought about keeping them but passed them on to a fellow cruiser head instead.I have never seen the headlight eyebrows you show in the first photos on an FJ40…. I kinda like the way they look. When I was riding motorcycles decades ago, I always had added one to my bike as one of the first accessories….
Hagerty is worth checking out, if you're not DD'ing it..Sent an email to my insurance broker for antique insurance. Wonder what kind of laughter will ensue when they see the pics![]()
Turns out I’m not missing a part, my choke is just sticking. Like the spring isn’t strong enough or something. If I take the air cleaner off and tap it, it will close (with the cable pulled of course), but won’t on its own. If tried to lube the rods and parts but no luck.Somehow I lost a part to my goofy frigging carburetor. I don’t know if it’s a rod or a spring, but the choke doesn’t activate without it (the red line).
Fun part is going to be finding a replacement piece.

Mine did the same thing. If the shaft that holds the choke butterfly is even a tiny bit off center, your butterfly will rub the side of the bore and stick. It will open fine because the cam pushes it back.
