That’s why I imagine I’m doing something wrong, I just don’t know what. Seat covers shouldn’t be rocket science, lol.

Painted, re covered and installed one rear seat. I still need to tweak the armrest over, which bugs me because I thought I had taken care of that before painting.
Started to paint the second seat.
Also reinstalled the spare tire carrier, now to find another (welded) stock wheel.

I have never seen the headlight eyebrows you show in the first photos on an FJ40…. I kinda like the way they look. When I was riding motorcycles decades ago, I always had added one to my bike as one of the first accessories….

They were popular in the vw (bug) scene in the 80s/90s. I thought about keeping them but passed them on to a fellow cruiser head instead.

Sent an email to my insurance broker for antique insurance. Wonder what kind of laughter will ensue when they see the pics 🤣
Hagerty is worth checking out, if you're not DD'ing it..

They do ask about a garage. I used haggerty for a few cars with a 3 car fee of almost 1385.00 annually. Switched to American Collector for 1/2. No crazy restrictions. I have max coverages and conveniences for dumb stuff

Finally got around to fixing my tailgate latch. Previously the sill had been replaced but no hole drilled, maybe the latch was already broken?
I found some pieces at ace and got it started. I need a spring, some loctite and some paint now.

Somehow I lost a part to my goofy frigging carburetor. I don’t know if it’s a rod or a spring, but the choke doesn’t activate without it (the red line).
Fun part is going to be finding a replacement piece.

Turns out I’m not missing a part, my choke is just sticking. Like the spring isn’t strong enough or something. If I take the air cleaner off and tap it, it will close (with the cable pulled of course), but won’t on its own. If tried to lube the rods and parts but no luck.
It will open fine because the cam pushes it back.

Mine did the same thing. If the shaft that holds the choke butterfly is even a tiny bit off center, your butterfly will rub the side of the bore and stick. One of the reasons I swapped that carb for a later model

If I didn’t have waaaay too much into this pos already 😢

Really struggling with this carburetor today. Found the issue why my secondary wasn’t opening, took it apart, botched the repair. Backyard engineered a temporary fix, put it all back together and now it idles super high.
Can’t find any vacuum leaks and I can’t set the timing, as it’s too bright out and I don’t know what I’m really looking for anyway.

Got the carburetor mostly fixed, enough to drive it anyway. Can get it up to 60+ now that the secondary opens (and closes). Still idles funky at times. Might be the nature of this particular carburetor.
Thanks to those who posted pics and sent me parts, I really appreciate it!
Little front end Friday action.

Ran outta gas, on the way to get some. I was about 1/8 mile short when it died. The starter pulled it off the road. It didn’t like this angle at all. Leaked a bit from the valve cover, smoked for awhile after that.
~$70 later it’s home safe and sound with a full tank.
