Not had a chance to test the fuel tank. When the gas gauge showed 1/3 of a tank we filled up and put 28 gallons in.

Once I get home I'll see what she holds by measuring the dimensions and using my high school geometry skills.

376 miles till Houston where we will be stating tonight.

Just stopped for gas.
23.1 gallons
218 miles gps (pig read 208)

9.4 mpg...is there a hole in you tank? You must be leaving a wet line in the road!

think she really needs a tune-up!!

the roof rack is not helping. I can feel it slowing us down when the wind picks up.

The joys of driving a brick in the wind, a wind deflector like you see on bike rack load bars will help some on the rack;) Make sure you've got max PSI in the tires and check the air filter (sometimes the PCV valve will clog up and cause oil to saturate the filter which will have a negative impact on MPG).

Otherwise slow and steady wins the race, these old 2Fs are real happy at 55 ... hope you're marathon leg went ok today!

Tucker

yesterday: we went 650 miles

today we hope to cover 685 miles and make it to Tallahassee, FL going to me another long day.

Leg is feeling good. I've learned how to wedge my foot against the tranny hump and walla cruise control!

Tucker, Thanks for the advise i'll check those as we fill up this morning. think the wind deflector will have to wait. but yes it would help.

the 5mpg drop happened when we moved our driving from 55 to 65. I can feel that the vaccuum advance stays on more at that speed. plus the roads leading to san antonio were rather hilly. I also do not like the Weber carb that is on there. Think a trollhole or get the stocker rebuilt I pulled from the PO's other pig.

well alarm just went off so back to the salt mines!

Big thanks everyone for the advice and support.

PS. The front seats SUCK!!!!

Ok, I've obviously let life get in the way of my cruiser habit, and missed this thread:mad:
Time for a little catching up...

It has 35k miles on it. 2nd owner purchased from first owner of 34 years. Have a copy of original title from 78!

Spent its whole life in AZ so little to no rust! "Florida will fix that"

That is an awesome rig! Congrats on the purchase:cheers:
I'm with the blue and white crowd. The first one I ever saw was in Anna Maria Island, rolling down the beach road, and it was a beautiful blue and white. Stole my heart. That said, the paint and body work on yours is beautiful.

Congrats! Enjoy the adventure with your Dad. Make it a fun trip and take alot of pictures, You'll look back on them the rest of your life. Good Job!

 Truer words were never spoken:beer:
Enjoy your Pig, and your dad. I'd give anything to make one more road trip with my old man (RIP).

That's awesome....I'd love to take my kids on a road trip in a pig. Serious bonding. You'll never forget it....Enjoy the drive and take your time !!

I agree. It's more the journey than the destination. Little towns, sunrises and sunsets, and the head turns of the people and little kids you pass along the way:D

My 4 year old daughter really wants to go with me and her poppi. I would love to take her however i think that after she watches the entire collection of Dora she will wish she had stayed at home rather than be strapped in a car seat.

Plus the cost of a 3rd ticket makes it more prohibitive. Think I'll reserve future trips to shorter florida jonts with the girls.

Yeah, the airlines will rape you these days.
I'd have to agree with your assessment of the trip with the little one. Those are some long days, and while those of us that appreciate these things and the journey itself will deal with it, the little ones, well, not so much after the first few hours. With the road noise and the wind whistling through the door frame, she's probably going to be a little miffed about not being able to hear her shows:lol:

I have a 7 year old, live in granddaughter, and we've already started taking short jaunts to the beach, and some of the local attractions, in the FJ62. She adores the rig and I plan on making it hers one day.

Those memories that you build with your little :princess: will last a lifetime!

Hope your :steer: has gone well and welcome home:clap::cheers:

Well mileage has improved some. 10.5 on last stop. In a good note she is not burning any oil. Still at the top bar even with all this driving.

We got an early start this morning and think we will try to make it home rather than stop in Tallahassee.

Able to go 70 now on these flat roads so time will be a like better.

Couple of gopro photos from this morning.

I suspect your tank is not as big as the Man-a-free tank (55 gallons) for the same spot. That's because the Man-a-fre tank hung down below the frame some. It had a canted bottom at the rear to help with the departure angle. On the other hand, yours does tick up neatly outta the way, which is a plus.

Yeah, the bench seat is right outta a buckboard. You grow used to it -- or maybe you do when you're young. Now I'm not so sure if I could endure.

Well made it home last night after 17 hours of travel 964+ miles of driving straight yesterday. Its nice sleeping in ones own bed.

First thing this morning the girls jumped into bed and asked where the pig was and if they could see it. We went outside and took the tape of the pig, which was like christmas morning. Then we all went to breakfast at wafflehouse! :)

Glad to have the pig home and now the fun begins getting here completed.

Summary of Trip:
2,039+ miles
203 Gallons of Gas
Zero Oil Burned
Great mexican in San Antonio at the Alamo Cafe
2.5 Days of Solid Driving
3 RedBulls
12 Diet Cokes
8 Arnold Palmer Iced Teas
2 boxes of crackers
bunch of apples and carrots
Tons of Photos
Many solid hours with my best friend and Dad

Lessons Learned:
FJ55 Front seats if not restored Suck
A FJ55 at 70 MPH is a full on assault on your senses (its REALLY loud)
Plan on going 2x as slow and use 2x as much gas as you had planned
Do not take any tools because you will not need them
and take your best friend because the trip will be something that you'll both remember for years to come.

Here are a couple of photos from this morning of "sandy" the pig home in Florida. We are now going to a church picnic and going to cruise in the pig. Will be nice.
