Plan on going 2x as slow and use 2x as much gas as you had planned..

What, you expected 20 MPG? :D But, 10 is atrocious for a non lifted truck on freeway driving. Did you ever calculate the MPG of your 60 and 80 on long trips for comparison?
Sounds like the fuel gauge isn't functioning properly, unless you have an 80+ gallon tank. Maybe show us a photo of it sometime.

I got around 14 in my 60 & 80 depending on how I was driving.

Fuel guage works great. I add fuel and use the GPS to measure distance. Just needs to be tuned and driven easier. (ie: not at 75 mph) :D

That is one sweet looking rig. Hopefully you'll be able to make one of the gatherings we're putting together in the Florida section. Would love to see it in person.

The kids look like they're really enjoying themselves:D
Same look my granddaughter has when she get's in.

PS- Great day for a cruise!

Enjoy!

OD

I would love to. Got your email and cell and hope we can hook up soon. Look forward to talking cruisers and handing out.

Looking forward to it. Nice having cruiserheads local. Not many of us here in Florida.

We'll get the kids together and let them have a blast!

Give me a shout at your convenience.

We seem to be gaining a little momentum recently on the Florida scene. I think it just needs a little push:D

Did ya try out the factory AC?

it worked when I got there however about 6 miles down the road it stopped blowing cold....

convert to 134a like I did on my 60. The switch on the left of the evap coil stays orange however I cannot switch off. no amount of pushing can change the orientation. Going to pull and replace with a autozone special when I recharge the system.

any advice on dealing with these systems beyond the typical AC procedures?

On a side note I just ordered a Trollhole carb to ditch the weber one. Then sand and refinish the air cleaner assembly i pulled from the PO's parts rig.

Also going to be ordering a tune-up kit, PCV, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, t-stat and gaskets.

With those then i move to a front axel rebuild, new shocks, and stabilizer. Will check tie-rods and go from there. she needs an alignment and the steering box needs a slight adjustment to reduce play in the wheel.

thats enough for now then I'll tackle the AC.

Awesome story of a Pig road trip with your Dad!

My Dad came to visit a few weeks ago and we took the Pig out. I could tell he wanted to drive, so I asked him if he wanted to drive? He did. He also has forgotten how to drive manual transmixer...

Me: You killed it. (again)
Dad: I killed it?
Me: It's dead.
Dad: Are you sure?
Me: Well, the CEL (3FE) is on, pretty sure it is dead...

I think he had fun though, and the Pig survived.

Good times!

What's your plan for the seats? Just SOR covers? I think IPOR sells aftermarket buckets for da Pig, if you're so inclined.

I'd like to keep her looking stock and I know buckets would be way more comfortable however I'm really diggin the bench seat.

So I think its going to be new $OR seat foam and seat vinyl.

Here is what I am thinking. http://www.sor.com/cat310e.sor

Just wish they were not so expensive. I'm going to price having them rebuilt by a local automotive upholstery shop and see what they can do. I like the look of the $OR kit.

However right now I'm focusing on the drive train.

Here is what I've got to do over the next few months)
all new weather stripping coming and to install
Plugs
Wires
Cap
Rotor
Flush & Fill radiator
rebuild front axels
Degrease engine bay
convert AC to 134a
change out weber carb to Trollhole carb (on-order)
tune
check brakes
fix parking brake (handle will not stay set) Locking pin missing/broken....
adjust parking shoes
rebuild front calipers (or just grease to ensure smooth operation)
remove old (added CD player and remove wires) Looks like a birds nest in the engine.
new washer bottle/sprayer
replace rear window gear with brass one
clean and grease window/door handle regulators
also check with DS door lock not working

Future:
rear main seal & front main seal need replacing
replace wheels & tires with tall/skinnys steel wheels with OEM center caps
dash cap
glove box door
new dash gauge pod
recover front and rear seats
new door & cargo cards

I am asking myself what in the world I was thinking!!! :) Really its not as bad as it sounds its just more time than I have between my day job and family.

Sleep is over rated anyhow!

Keep a list and mark off as you go. Try to do the things that will keep it down, at the same time. Maybe carb and front axle, etc.

True on keeping it down at the same time. I've got a list however tonight is out as I am taking my family to the Tampa Bay Lightning game! Really excited to see them play St. Louis Blues.

I'm on hold till I get my Trollhole carb then I can tune and get running correctly.

Nice pig, Nice Family story. About gas mileage, when I drived home for 550 km I was about 15 l/ 100km at 90-100 km/hour. ( 15 MPG ).

So the past 3 weeks have been very busy with little to no time to work on Sandy.

Last weekend was able to pressure wash the axles in preparation for servicing. The past 35 years worth of AZ dirt and cruiser grease presented a great excuse to use my pressure washer. See the before and how she sits now.

Have all axles broken down, degreased/cleaned, and ready for painting. Ordered a front axel service kit and have HD Marlin Crawler inner axle seals on the way. I've run them on my last two cruisers and never an issue.

A few pics of the yours truely pressure washing, before/after de-greasing, and Sandy naked in the garage... Ready for more free time and Marlin Inners.

On a side note on shocks/steering stabilizer..

On a whim I decided to purchase new ones so while I was in there I took the old ones out and all three cam apart in two pieces. Zero absorption qualities left.... :)

Brakes:
All soft/fexible lines are cracked pretty bad so I'll be getting some new brake lines....

Gotta love it.

Just glad the trip they all decided to work as designed.

Wow, what is up with those rotors?

Grease leaking then soaking the pads. grab, skip, grap, skip, etc....

I'll have them turned prior to re-install.

I like to think the grease is rust proofing the underside of the cruiser. :hillbilly:
