Hmmm I hope these aren't like the OTT knuckles I used for high steer on my 80 axles in my 55. They were a great setup, but the company underestimated cost and amount of time to do them so it was delay after delay after delay. I hounded them for months and my set was the last they said they would ever do. And they were more expensive than this....

Give Ruff Stuff Specialties a call. They have a set up and it's probably ready to ship.

I am pretty sure they have the Hellfire setup, and I think the draw for people with this new setup was getting the casting for bigger brakes.

Does anyone know percentage wise the increase in brake disc diameter is? As soon as you increase wheel diameter you need to work the brakes harder to stop in the same distance, unless you want to reduce tyre wall ratio?

So are you getting better brakes that reflect the outlay, assuming that is the only reason to purchase the knuckles?

Stock rotor is around 311mm the rotor I saw mentioned was 338mm so about an 8.6% increase.

18% increase in surface area if the whole area of the circle was used for braking. Hard to say how much the actual braking surface increases, but it's significant.

Anyone running it from ruff stuff on this platform yet?

Ruff Stuff continued development of the Hell Fire knuckle that was originated and made by a small vender so, yes, there are some of the originally designed knuckles out there in service now. @jcardona1 has been running them.

For $975 plus other miselaneous fees you to can have a set on your 80. I just rebuilt mine and don't mind doing torque checks on my knuckle nuts so I will stay stock for now. This is one of those items that I would go to when I start having problems with what I have.

Doubt its that significant tbh. I can do the math if you guys care

Calipers and pads along with the increase in rotor size should be quite significant... I'm interested for sure. Running a tundra or gx braking system on an 80 would be worth the price of admission IMO.

It's been written that, once the abs system is eliminated, an 80 brake system is capable of locking up all four in size 37.

Well we know for sure we can ask Jose C he pulled his, I want to also 37s dont stop well, even with spanking TT rotrs oads and new calipers and lines/.

Drive accordingly.

Mine didn't lock up. Youd need a lot of pedal pressure for that to happen. Or terrible tires.

Surface area is of low relevance unless for static holding or something. Its the relative speed of the rotor (effective radius) and pressure generated.

Can you do a pie chart, so we get a simple explanation

Many factors at work here, what is the percentage increase on a 17 inch rim plus the tyre size? Low profile to keep rolling circumference the same is not an option for off road use (IMO), so now the rolling diameter has to increase.

The ability to lock the brakes is no guide to braking power, heat disipation is more important IME, if I drive my 80 hard enough it is not long before fade starts to set in (slotted/dimpled discs ect), so perhaps this where the advantage lies?

I will not be purchasing the knuckles based on my (regular) off road use, I did the knucke overhaul around 5 or 6 years back, no issues with breakage/working loose, perhaps only an issue with the larger tyres?

A question to those of you arguing that proper torque on a stock setup negates any benefit in strength here... uh what? Care to explain? Breaking studs is a thing regardless of how often you torque your nuts.

Sell your argument to the mini truck scene who for the most part wheels a lot harder than the 80 crowd. There is a reason these FROR knuckles and keyed arms exist. There is a reason TG six shooter knuckles exist. There is a reason ARP stud upgrades are so common. I understand the knuckle setup on an 80 is slightly beefier from the factory than a mini truck, but it does not negate the relative benefits of the FROR setup.

Aside from reducing the likelihood of shearing a stud when running 37+ Tires and lower gearing, the tundra brake upgrade is a good one. I run the tundra brakes w/ 17s on my 85, and it's dreamy albeit I weigh 2k lbs less than most of your rigs. I can lock 37s up. Brand new tires - good ones.
