Hey all -
Just wanted to post some before & after pics of the ride after installing some 1.5" Spidertrax spacers (p/n: WHS-005)
Tires are 285/75R16

This weekend, I'll be installing new speakers (8 total for dash/door & console subwoofer + Bazooka tube) and will post pics of that once it's done as well :)

Looks great, like it should be from the factory. Its funny, I noticed 4runners of the same era don't have the wheels tucked in like fzj80's do.

Did you do it yourself? Torque wrench?

I was thinking about doing this, other than a better look; does it help with 4x4 stability being wider... how about normal road conditions. What have you noticed.. and what are the affects on safety?

no - took it to a shop that builds Toyota 4x's
They asked me what brand (they've had bad experiences with some), loc-tite / torqued them and also had a machine that could balance up to a 50" tire that they balanced my lil' 285/75's with.
Had an annoying minor dent in the bumper that pushed the right side in that caused the tires to rub and instead of trimming, they fixed the bumper mount that was causing the issue. Overall awesome trip to the shop.

Well - the debate is out on "safety". Because of that some shops won't touch spacers with a 10-foot pole.
As far as stability... theoretically, yes, it should be more 'stable' but I only gained 3-inches in track width so not really sure how much that does.
I didn't really notice any changes (other than less vibration due to properly balanced wheels) but it was enough for me to take a couple offramps with a little more gusto lol

Nice looking stance. Have you taken it out wheeling to see if you having any clearence issues as a result?
not yet, but I thought I heard a little something as I was going over a speedbump a little faster than I should have. I'm working on the stereo this weekend so I probably won't see dirt for another week.
nice. On the Spidertrax, there is no listing for LC80.

Which ones would you get as i want to get some

Thanks
I think I posted it at the top but it's p/n: WHS-005

I put mine on today! The wheels is 16 x 8 -13 with a 285/75/15, with the spacer it makes it a 16 x 8 -52!

Looks good.

Any problems with vibration at high speed? I am thinking about adding some on my fzj80. Can you just bolt them on and torque them down or are there any tricks for balancing?

Thanks for the pics. I'm eventually doing the same but had never seen actual B/A pics before.

The track always looked a bit too narrow to me, both esthetically and practically. Although I heard many years ago that wheel spacers cause wheel bearings to wear out sooner. Any truth to this?

.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't loctite them. You should really pull the wheels off every 50 miles or so and retorque the spacers until they no longer loosen between checks. Ive observed that they will sometimes take 2-3 re-torques to get them properly seated.

No, I do not believe that will happen to the bearings

There has been several debates on this over the years

I look at it this way, it would be the same leverage as if you were running a wheel with 1.5 inches less backspacing, stock 4.5 inches as opposed to say a wheel with 3 inches of back spacing

Seems like it would throw mud, dirt, salt, rocks, etc on the bodywork more with the spacers, no?

Actually there is no difference. Tire allign with the flares rather than tucked in. If you look at the late 90's 4runners, they came from the factory with the tires alligned with the flares. They don't have problems with dirt being thrown onto the bodywork.

Yes, you should loctite. I have spider trax (on my 4r)....they provide the loctite for you. You torque to 80ftpds and every time rotation is performed, 5k in my case, u see if u can "break free" any of the bolts on the spacer at 70ftlbs...if u do, retighten.

These, especially spydertrax, are very popular in the 4runner forums. Some reported problems but mainly with knock-off brands.

That's because they're not designed for the weight of the 80.

I'm not sure if any others are or not, all I know is that isn't not something I'd want to do with my rig... sorry, safety above looks... you can get a wider tire to fill the gap as well...

Agreed....note my comment is regarding my 4runner
