Ouch, been there feel your pain.

Have you started it yet? If not it won't be a huge problem.

Drain that tank and fill it up with diesel if you can where you are, if not call AAA and have them tow you home to do it.

He doesn't have the AAA Platinum membership that I encourage all of us to get. (I'm sure he will by tomorrow!)

He's at exit 48 on I77 in SC. @elkaholic is heading home via that way already. Anybody more local is encouraged to respond, but I think we all know that that corridor is pretty out of the way to most of us.

Rescue in process. >20 gallons of fuel siphoned out ...

+ 1 on this, saved my ass in colorado with a 150 mile tow.

What was the mix up in fuel, diesel?

Really wasn't anything to it. @JohnVee got in touch with me as I was leaving a company Holiday party. I get off at that exit every night on my way home. A quick stop at Lowe's in Rock Hill garnered five 5 gallon buckets with lids, some hose, and a siphon pump.

Since I was still in business attire, I was a material provider, instructor, supervisor, and cheerleader in this effort. Just cost me a little time and a cat cussing from three felines who expected to be fed by 7

Besides, I couldn't leave a Cruiser brother broken down that close to me. @slceso , very nice 81 by the way.

@AndrewHadji the issue was a mixture of ~5 gallons of diesel to which 20 gallons of gasoline was added. 1HDTs don't like that mixture ....

This has been the trip from hell Jason, sorry to hear. Do not buy a lotto ticket today. I'm glad Sam was able to step up so quick and have you on your way, kudos.

My wife and daughter both have a Jetta with a TDI and I've told them a million times, don't sweat that mistake, we can fix it easy. Start the engine, and we'll have a heck of a problem on our hands. Glad you caught it in time.

Glad you got it fixed!! Bet that's a mistake you'll never make again :hillbilly:

Least it wasnt diesel in petrol, like my mother did, with my sisters new camry..... and drove it till it hydro locked

Mom, the hose doesnt even fit....
I know! I had to hold it against the filler and slowly fill it
<shakes my head>

This was a huge argument when I was in Africa always had to pop the hood on the 80 to show the gas station attendants it was really gas and not diesel had to show them the spark plugs.

Yikes....will insurance even touch that?

Glad it worked out for you. Don't feel too bad I left the Monk's house one morning after a huge party and I managed to fill the tank of the jetta minus about 1/2 gallon of diesel full of gas. Being tired and hung over led to me to just grab the green handle at the gas pump at a HESS station (just instinct since all diesel pumps on the west coast are green it is ingrained into my brain)

Drove about 1 mile down the road to the car shutting off. Towed it home, drained the tank, sat the lift pump in a bucket of diesel, changed the fuel filter and filled with diesel purge. Put 5 gallons of diesel in the tank and it fired right up. Only consequence that might have been linked to it was the lift pump died about 2 years later. New one was $325... ouch.

We have a similarity! Pic in the thread was taken at the Wilco Hess truck stop at exit 48 on I77 in SC

Full coverage since she still owed a ton on it, repair cost was never disclosed to me by my sister as she was pretty pissed and i never brought it up, from what I understand they did not replace the engine, so it must have been close to 3-4 k replacing con rods, pistons and whatever else was bent. Keep in mind this was close to 11 years now and she drove it well into the 200k miles. It was only 4 months old when this happened.
