Did not get to do the CLR scrub down yet. I did get 95% of the primer sanded off the original paint. Ran out of day light and arm power...

I did give the tool box lid a CLR bath and it's pretty amazing the difference it made. I have not even buffed or waxed it yet. Very promising results. Hopefully, I can get the whole tub scrubbed down tomorrow. Then, I am ordering a nice buffer/polisher deal. :grinpimp:

Used a Toyota jack to push out a couple dents. I tried to hammer it smoother, but the metal is fairly thick. It's definitely better than it was.

Also, the seats I ordered showed up today. They are ProCar 90's by Scat. They recline and are very similar to the later 40 oem buckets. Just need to build a seat mount.

The original motor is not looking so good. I pulled the side cover and found rusty stuck lifters.

I have a spare motor that's just like 200 serial numbers earlier. It's pretty clean and look rebuilt. I popped the valve cover and it looks promising.

I discovered something interesting tonight. I checked the motor serial #'s and it's not the original motor. Which is fine I guess cause it's a rusted mess. My spare motor is numbered just 150 #'s earlier. It looks much better so far. Both motors are mid 71 vintage. I guess I should have noticed that earlier.......

Since I want to repaint a few areas of this 40.......I needed to find a good paint match. First few attempts were no bueno. Then today at Ace Hardware, I bought a can that looked close. Sprayed a sample and it's a pretty good match.
Here's a pic with the flash.......then another 2 without. It should match nicely after everything gets buffed out. :grinpimp:

I did manage to get the front frame horns all cleaned up. I still need to make/weld a brace to replace the destroyed oem one. I also plan to weld both sides of the shackle hanger since I had to grind off the factory rivets.

Thanks. Yeah I was worried after opening them up, cleaning process will get crud, dust inside the assembly. So should remove all the internals, then clean outside & inside, paint, install and reassemble internals.
