Next up, my intake manifold adapter arrived last week

And I had gotten in a cxracing intercooler the week before
CXRacing Universal Bar&Plate FMIC Intercooler 25x12x3 | eBay

I'm going to have these plumbed and installed along with a custom air intake box built around this ACDelco air filter at a local offroad shop here in fort smith.

I still need to install the cruise sensor replacement found below. Hopefully I can carve out some time for that this weekend

OOooo, where did you get that manifold adapter from? Mind if I ask how much?

So it turns out, that if the tires are completely submerged in mud and water, you WILL get mud in water in the floorboards...at least in my LC. More on that later. Going to try to get some updated pics up tonight, if possible

Now this is a problem I wasn't expecting. I suppose i can mount on the tire or when the 4x4labs bumper arrives, on the jerry can holder. I don not want to drill the license plate.

Has anyone else come across this problem and how did you address it?

I had been trying to get used to using the kph speedo to work. Wasn't really working from me and when converted to mph using a .621 conversion. This was made worse by the fact that the converted speed always came out 5-8 mph slower than the gps apps i tried.

I finally gave in and tore the dash apart yesterday and swapped to a mph speedometer. The swap required a little patience but was easy even for a guy with no experience with dashes or any type of mechanic work really.

As a bonus, i did discover why i couldn't get the lockers to work. After the head units were swapped, the radio installer reinstalled the dash leaving this:

I've always just drilled the license plates, takes only a few seconds, no big deal.

Leaving this for my reference as well as for anyone looking for similar products.

I spoke with Brad at Nobullaccessories.com in Australia. He's requested pics of my interior which ive sent, but he believes there sand grabbas will work fine. Anyone have a set already?

I'm also sending pics to:
Seatcoversunlimited
Wetokole
rufftuff

Each felt that with pics and measurements, they could make seat covers for the rhd hdj81 for the same price listed on their sites.
Anyone have any of these three seat covers?

I know, but for some reason that route doesn't sit well with me.

I've got sandgrabba front floor mats, they are a great fit and the best solution for HDJ81's that I've found. I'm using Weathertech digital for 2nd row (requires minor trimming around center console), and cargo area. I'd have used Weathertech for the front as well if they made a RHD application.

Started looking at speedometer correction options and it looks like ive got a few good choices.

Marks 4wd for $265
Speedometer service in Oregan which at one time was under $100. I'll call them this week
Commercial Speedometer in Sacramento CA also under $100 in an old post. They don't have a website, but there number is (916) 371-5873. I'll be calling them as well

@IanB I just looked at you sig. What are you doing killing all of these Toyodas!

Double post

If you're shopping for Aussie aftermarket stuff, most things will be the same as the run of the mill Aussie FZJ80, HDJ80, but there will be some quirks.
Your HDJ81 VX will be most closely a match for the Aussie "Sahara" model spec, but with some differences there too.

I took my new LC out to an off road park Saturday with the family and had a blast. No rock crawling, nothing technical, but some good solid trails. The park had two mud drag pits, shallow and deep. I did the most boneheaded thing possible on the deep run and got stuck. It was 100% me, not the truck. Corrected the issue and after a little back and forth and nasty looks from my wife, we were out. I know the wheels were completely submerged and water came into the cabin at all 4 doors. That's all and good, but immediately after the egt's went up 200 degrees across the board (idle and under load) and at time would push 1200 if i didn't keep a close eye on it. The air filter doesn't look wet or muddy, but if i completely remove the airbox, the egt problems correct, so i'm thinking there's some mud between inner and outer finder near the air intake that's restricting flow.

Lessons learned
1. The airbox on my LC was designed without airflow factoring into the equation. The inlet and outlet on that box are horrible.
2. For me, i thought a snorkel would be more cosmetic, but a 4" snorkel just went up to the top of the list and i hope to put it in this week for intercooler, new airbox and a snorkel
3. Do not EVER, under ANY circumstances repeat that same dumb ass mistake
3. Man what fun this vehicle is!

As far as actual work this weekend. The speedo swap i mentioned is really simple. just be patient when working when loosening the dash

Pulled the dash apart

A break in the dash I had intended to eventually fix actually made removal much easier
mUKToxYl.jpg

Of course i had a little help

Pulled the instrument cluster

Pulled out the KPH speedo
lLbp6Oul.jpg

Put in the MPH Speedo

And reinstalled
YpyrBvJl.jpg

That's pretty much it. Was off by 15% before and after the swap when compared to gps

Results of the weekends off road trip

A little bit of mud made it to the airbox, but not much and the filter is fine. Pretty sure there is mud between the inner and outer fenders slowing air flow

The mud entering the got a good bit of the carpet in the floor and the lower door (who puts carpet on a lower door?), but nothing a little extra attention to detail wont take care of

Sadly, i did not get a pic of my epic fail in the mud pit. I'll try to do better next time

I wonder if you could have just swapped the gauge face?

Mud pits are best avoided like the plague

Make sure to dry the carpets thoroughly. In the past, I've left a small blow heater running inside the car around the clock with windows slightly ajar to dry the under felt and carpet

I'm really curious to see what your fender well area looks like. If it makes a difference in EGTs, I might pull mine apart as well!
