hi guys

I problery expect too much of this old engine and engineering! But I have seen so many old diesel engines without any start problems if everything is okay!

So lets see when the new glow plugs arrives. Then everything is check and should work as good as new.

Today I got the new Bosch primer pump from UK

I got a few of those too :-)

You're not expecting too much, you're just not respecting the the instructions! ;-)

If Mr Toyoda's engineers designed the engine and cold start system so throttle is needed in cold weather (and that works), then it Works, it's just another approach.
These engines are actually quite good at cold weather starting for their design age, and I know of old mechanics and Contractors that had these from new in the 70's, that praise them for that.
One told me when I met him in my '45 that he used his - in the late 70's - to pull-start all their real trucks when it was cold, because the Cruiser was the only one able to start every morining. Quite ímpressive that the chore for a 2T pickup was to pull-start a 20T truck at minus 20C.

Hi Christian

Of course there is a point in there statements made from factory! And my cars also starts, but I really don't think it starts as good as possible. So what I am hoping for is that the new plugs etc. will make a change - not perfect - but as good as is can be for the age/wear in the engine.

My truck was sold to at "tagdækker enterprise" on Sjælland. I got the original invoice from 1979 :)

It drove more than 75000km in 1,5 year!!!

Hi Jepser

Of course the correct glow plugs for a 12V system should make it a lot easier! :-)

I am the 3rd owner of my '1980 45, the first was a vet, the second a foreman at Assens Skibsværft. When I got it, it had about 115.000 km's on the clock!

I looking forward to having the time to make mine in to the Family Car... The plans are (in short, not to highjack your epic build) new fibreglass body, five doors, 12H-t engine, new real backseat, HJ60 servo, but otherwise it will appear original, and just as red as yours!

Damn it Jesper, you are all-in on this! Impressive, that lot has relieved you of some kroners!!!

I simply had to buy some aftermarket parts due to the prices, but I regret it! They are crap… But they are a easy change! But right now I must keep an eye on the budget ;)

A lot of money into this project!!!

doing something right is never cheap ...

you are so right!

A little new today…

and guess what new correct glow plugs and voila!!!

Good to hear about your plug situation Jesper. Bet she fired right up.

did you bleed from the furthest cyl away from the master and work your way back to the master?
did you bleed the master?
if you installed a new master, did you make sure it was identical to the original?
did you have the master/booster/rod off for paint? when you put it back on did you make sure the pedal throw is the same?

just generic questions that might help

Actually I have not fired the truck up yet - I am working with the brakes! What a freaking nightmare!!! Seems like I can't get the air out of the rear cylinders.
I had the same issue with my FJ55 rear brakes which are identical to the LPB rears, make sure you get them properly adjusted manually first. I ended up getting all the air out with a gravity bleed starting at the furthest run, just don't let your reservoir go dry at the master and loose your bench bleed there ;-)

Good luck!

Tucker

hi guys

Yes did all the correct steps - I have do a lot of this on different car brands, but never tried anything gas difficult as this system - its a design freakshow!

No it is almost perfect! the pedal can pump 1cm before max pressure, but I can't get the last air out.

But today I finished a lot more, so I guess it is 92,5% done ;)
