definite convert by the owner. he was just such a fab master youd think its oem haha.

im keeping the wagongear stuff, but for future requests, pm me, i dont want this turning into a parting out thread. that goes for all.

that's pretty cool on the runner, any other pics of that fab work?

im almost out of PMs and haven't deleted any yet :meh:

Looks like it was awesome. I like the look of the Light forces personally, but I was never a big fan of super big extra lights in front of the grill. Just my 2 cents. ;)

yeah thanks. i cant wait to get them all hooked up.

nope, those are the only ones.

you need at least 8-9 inch spotties on a 62 in an arb. il post a pic of mine when i get a chance

i agree. 170mm is only about 6.5". The light force 210 genesis (8.26") look to be just the right size to keep me happy! But yes, post a pic. i still have seen your 61

UP-mothafawkin-DATE:

Last week, mr. 2000UZJ helped me (did everything pretty much) install and power the light forces on the bumper. Hes good at this s*** and decided that instead of hooking them directly to the battery (giving me the chance to leave them on all night and drain the battery), we'd leech electrical life juice from the little side markers like some sort of disgusting parasitic worm... But they work, so im happy :D

Y'all saw the picture of the just bolted up and i wasnt too keen on the size, but i realized it wasnt the size that bothered me, it was the height in comparison to the 4 headlights. The LFs towered above the headlights and it just looked off to me. So here it is with entire bumper moved down an inch to its lowest setting...

And guess what... thats not working for me either, but for different reasons. My final remedy for the situation will be cutting of the light mounts on the bumper, and redrilling holes on the lower, horizontal part so that i will be able to move my bumper back up to the middle location, but still have the lights mounted in the same spot relative to the headlights.

And because i was so proud of my switch, heres a picture.

I forgot (because i duct taped it back on so masterfully) i knocked my exhaust off at the ACC ride at GMP, i cut it and a couple of the GA Cruisers welded it out the side for me!

It looks sooooo much better than that crunched little pipe coming out the back!
If im lucky, ill be able to swap the much newer, much sleeker (both cats are on the inside of the frame) onto Woody. But I can live with this for a while!

Oh yeah, funny story. On my way back from the "GA Cruiser shop" Saturday, i went to ACC to pick up my 80 series inner axle seals and lug nuts and when i got back in the truck to head home, the truck wouldn't start for the first time ever*.
After checking many very expensive ignition system parts and a mild electrocution later, it was determined that my distributor had died... RIP.
But i couldn't have chosen a better place to break down right? Just outside the best Land Cruiser shop in the South East.. Silver linings, right.

AND my chilkat 9.5" e locker cable conversion kits arrived today!!!! Hopefully, ill be able to get started on the small projects leading up to the install of these and the axle swap this week..

Im gonna get the truck back tomorrow and head over to the barn and get started on the inner axle seals. I only ordered 1, but 2 got shipped so i figured id just replace them both. That passenger side seal will probably choose to fail just days after i finish replacing the driver side seal :bang:

ill take some pics of the mess, so y'all 60 guys can see what whats inside an 80 FF bacause i know you people stay up at night wondering :)

*without me doing something dumb just before :D

The bumper at its lowest setting looks great. Don't waste your time drilling holes and all that jazz :)

I actually wouldn't mind seeing inside a different axle housing. It's like an exclusive peek into the 80 section without going over there ;)

I MUST CUT IT! it shouldnt take more than 30 min or so and ill feel 1000x happier with it.

Ill also take some pics of the actual locker itself as well, im not exactly sure how it works so now would be a great time to learn.

I've never seen an ARB with actual light tabs, it's usually just holes. Everything is looking really good!

Yesterday, i went to ACC with my other distributor expecting to pay to get it replaced since i didnt really know how to install it and i knew that if i did it wrong id end up not getting any oil to the engine and ruining EVERYTHING!! But (Big) Michael, told me what to in what order and off i went... I was happy did a lot more than i thought i wouldve been able to. each time put the dist in, it would be a tooth off or so, so he came and first try, made it just right. When we got to measuring the timing is when my problems started. Im a visual learner, if i see it done once, thats usually enough for me to get it down, so by the time (Big) Michael had finished telling me exactly how top use the timing gun, i had forgotten... which led me to some interesting things that made me look brain deficient
(Middle) Mike came to my rescue, and showed me the little BB that i was supposed to be looking for and we got it all finished up!!! I owe everyone at ACC many 6 packs hahaha.

Wonder why my dizzy stopped working... Surprisingly there was no humungous hole in the cap just letting water sit.

Replacement on the bottom.

Then this little beauty drove up  39000 original mile LJ71. Had every option from the factory possible and arrived from Japan less than a week ago.
And guess what, ITS FOR SALE!!!!!! If i had this, id lift it, throw some 255/85/16s under it and DD the hell out of it.

And i began my rear axle rebuild. it was so much easier than a front axle rebuild, but that isnt really a big surprise i guess. id have finished both today but i overslept a little this morning.

So heres what it looks like once you take the axle out and caliper off.

And then without the rotor, I may need to replace the parking brake shoes because they look pretty worn, but im happy to say the pads and rotor look to be in excellent shape... i love saving money!

Im no expert, but im pretty sure this is definitely NOT supposed to be covered in gear oil..

The for sale thread stated that the bearing had been replace and YAY they were. The races show no wear which is good since installing bearing races is the worst thing in the world to do.

Trying to take a pic of the inside, it sucks, i know haha.

Super clean spindle, everything else was covered in gear oil. I had to run to advance and get a bunch oy brake cleaner... ill need more for tomorrow
I was surpised to see all new springs in there.

The inside of the hub seemed alright, there was a lot of diff fluid in there, but there was also a ton of MP grease in there. but it was the color of baby poo, and grossing me out, so i changed it.

All new grease and seal.

That washer thing on the spindle that has all the holes drilled into it is really dumb. On the front 60 series axle, there those two 54mm nuts with a lock washer in between to secure them exactly where they are once torqued.. when you torque this, you either need to continue tightening it OR you need to untighten it because the screws can only be mated in the 2,5,7,and 10 o'clock positions. Idk, its weird haha.

Yay!

I much prefer this design. With the star washer configuration up front, if the tiny tab on the star washer gets worn off then there's nothing keeping the nuts from spinning on the spindle, screwing up your preload. With the FF design, you set it to the proper pressure, then tighten to the next screw hole. Piece of cake!! No dumb star washer to deal with.

My 14 bolt is similar, but uses a woodruff key to lock the nut in position. That design is way easier to assemble / disassemble than the Toyota FF rears.

That LJ71 is immaculate, I nearly bought one but the turbo had been removed so I decided stick to my guns and wait for a 60 :)

Well when you put it that way haha. I do like hammering those washers though :wrench:

Good move, an LJ definitely wouldnt be my first choice in 70 series, but this one was so pretty i could almost over look the arguably, very unreliable engine.

Cool that you got a chance to take a look at a very nice 70.
Later model LHD FZJ70 from S. America would be my first choice.

MATE, Top Thread Patrick!!!

Just Found Your Thread And Took A Light Sunday Read Ha Ha Ha.
You Really Scored With That second 62 Series.
The Fj's Are Not So Common Compared To The Hj's Down Here, But Woody Is Excellent.

Those KOYO Bearings Are As Good As Factory Quality.

Did You Change Over The WAGON GEAR Stuff To Woody???

Really Enjoyed Your Build.

Cheers Michael

If i could have any 70 series, id get a new VDJ76. Thats not gonna happen for like 23 years, so id settle for an importable BJ71!

Thanks Michael, yeah i struck gold with rusty... i still wonder how i got that lucky. And as youd expect the HJs are just a tad rarer around here than the FJs hahaha... I know theres an HJ61 about 30 or so miles from me, but both times ive seen it, we've been traveling opposite each other on the highway :crybaby: My brother got some pictures of it once at a gas station but the quality is about as good as this...

And the WAGON GEAR stuff will be transferred to Woody after i send all three pieces back to Kevin for repair, but hes super busy so its kind of on the back burner until his schedule opens up.

Thanks again for the interest

Only one longfield birf AND missing a clip :crybaby:

Longfield did used to just stamp "LF" into the flat spot on the birfield right?

The other is OEM? They look identical....

If its a long side longfield thats the more important one anyway. Id like to get a set but dont have the cash and my OEMs have held up fine

short side. Im ordering another birf and i may just get the shafts as well since id rather spend a couple hundred bucks for peace of mind, knowing ill never break anything up front.
