Wow thats barely below freezing...

My 3b has the super glow still and i only get a slight puff after sitting for a few weeks or more. I cycle them 2 times before a start after sitting that long. Ill make a vid of mine tomorrow after its been sitting for 7 weeks. Unheated garage its usually -10c inside when its -30c outside which its been the last 2 weeks.

Nice. Add the video in the thread I started in the diesel section. Might be good for everyone here to see what normal is. I know it’s not mine.

Here was mine today after 6 weeks sitting in the cozy -10c inside my garage in the winter. Ran outta time to have the heater installed...

To add i pushed it out the door haha

I managed to make it to and from Land Cruiser Roundup this year without help. Last year was the the free AAA ride from punching a hole in the oil pan with my homemade dipstick. Fun times had. Great group of 40's.

I did a quick valve lap adjustment today. I drove it to work to make sure it was nice and hot when I got home. Had the tools ready and jumped right in and pretty much burned myself the whole time. Rotating the engine was no big deal using the crank pulley.
Swapped valve cover gasket along with the four washers for the bolts that hold it down. The PO had used some pookey on the bolts and I had a slight leak on the rear one. No sludge noticed and the oil on the cover wiped off clean. Although I didn’t clean anything since it wouldn’t fit the rest of the truck.
Took it for a quick test drive in the neighborhood and nothing exploded. It could be mental but I thought 2nd gear had a bit more grunt to it.

Well I finally got around to installing the @reevesci Trail Tailer front bumper mounts I purchased almost a year ago. I figured if I am driving the 40 back to Colorado this year I should repair the damage from last year. I hit the front bumper pretty hard crossing a creek and the two rivets and one bolt disappeared. Passenger side was a simple replacement due to nothing to remove. For drivers side I ground down the rivet and then used a punch to remove. Everything lined back up like it should.

I was wondering if you ever installed those. Glad everything fit up for you!

I've been in training all week for my drive to Chicago. Been using the 40 as my daily for the past two weeks in the 100 degree weather.

Just realized I never updated my build tread with the engine trouble I had last August on my way to Chicago/ Solid Axle Summit 2. I made to Little Rock, AR on day one and when I started it up the following morning the engine had a knock. Drove to Memphis with no change. It drove fine but sounded terrible. I left it at Mosley Motors and rented a car to get to Chicago for work. Week later flew back to Memphis and met the wife and towed it home with the 4Runner. It has sat in the back yard since then.
I had bought a 3B as backup for a just in case situation. Well I finally made a parts order to get the 3B up to par to swap in. The 3B is a big guess as it I bought it for cheap knowing it had no back story other than sitting for years.
My plan is to start it up on a pallet to make sure it sounds OK. I spend today changing all exterior gaskets, adding new parts and swapping over some parts off the B. Put oil in it and noticed the pan has a few pin holes that I need to weld up. I’ll wait to after I test start it to make sure it’s worth it. I put on cheap filter to run fuel and oil through for a bit and then I’ll swap in the Toyota filters. @beno was great on getting a lot of the gaskets and hardware I needed.
Hopefully this week if the weather is good I’ll fire it up. I did drive the BJ40 one last time around the neighborhood just to make sure it still was knocking. Almost 8 months sitting and it fired right up but the knock was still there.

Will it be ready in time for SAS #3?
It would. I don’t know if I will be. Im about 50/50 right now due to work. I doubt I’m going to have the 75 ready so I’m planning on the 80 right now.
