My cookie monster oil pan ate another dipstick. My freshly new to me used dip stick broke off right at the full line. I was hoping to wait until next oil change to drop the pan to reseal it since the new cork gasket is leaking a bit but I guess I will do this weekend now. I may throw the used pan I got on since it doesn't have the cone thing where the dip stick rests in the pan.

Very cool thread and build... first time I've caught onto it somehow. Love your search and import efforts and the improvements made. Subscribed!

Came home to find a puddle of diesel on the garage floor today. I've got myself a leaky fuel tank. I had noticed earlier in the week I had a hissing after shutting it down so I knew exploration was coming. Pulled the tank and found it had a small hole in it, probably from rust.
I also found some sweet new holes I have to cover with duck tape on reinstallation.

Does anyone know where the hose on the right should go in the photo above? It has an inline filter and a hose barb on the dead end. I could tell it hasn't gone anywhere in years by the amount of dry dirt lodged in barbed end.

I ordered a fuel tank from CCOT instead of attempting to fix the one I have. It looks like it needs to retire. I will also be replacing all the hoses. I bought some marine grade diesel 5/16" hose for the 80 so I am hoping it will cover the 40 as well.

That hose to the right goes to the line that eventually makes its way to the charcoal canister in the engine compartment (mine connected to a hard line that was underneath the car). My understanding is that it is a one way pressure valve (which is still available from Toyota but is like $50!). I took mine out because the tank was pressurizing and I kept hearing sheet metal popping. OEM gas tank is available too btw and price was reasonable you can get it for under $400 shipped if you do some searching. 77100-60042

No charcoal canister on diesels from what I am aware of. I thought about OEM but the price would have been a little steep for me even though I prefer OEM.

A little steep from the guy who got a Dakota Digital cluster... :) Oh sorry, I see you already ordered a replacement.

I'm not a diesel guy so didn't realize that. But that's where that line goes for the regular fuel vehicles. So no pressurization issues? Seems like you could just cap all the lines then and bypass that altogether.

Yes I splurge on certain things and go cheap on others. DD dash was a almost a wash if you consider the gauges I would have needed to add /or fix. I also had my Ford leave me stranded yesterday due to bad starter, I think, so that came into play when looking at available funds.
The only pressurization issues I had were recently when I could hear the sucking of air until took of the fuel cap. I am assuming the hole in the tank was causing that.

A few updates.
First I picked up a 3B/4 speed/split case combo that came out of a 82. Unknown mileage. Goal is to get it to a point of starting to see how it sounds and then decide if it gets a rebuild or just a refresh. Split case will get a full rebuild and hopefully find a 5 speed that I can sandwich between them. This is a long term project as I have no issues with the B engine at the moment. I always have wanted to learn more about diesels so this is more of a learning project for myself. It was fun times getting it off the back of the truck and onto the stand by myself. Used the HF engine hoist to do it.
Second I ordered another aftermarket radiator since the OEM I have looks like it has been through a war. It's on its last leg after the last fix and it not holding up to my afternoon compute in the Texas heat. This time I went with a Champion radiator, 3 row aluminum made for an FJ40. However I am having them swap sides of the inlet and outlet to work with my B.

Better option: get an OEM 16400-49356 and have a radiator shop swap the inlet/outlets. ;). Cheaper than a new radiator.

And it's an OEM brass radiator.

 brother.

Nice upgrade u are going to have on ur rig, I did mine and for sure u will notice it once will be running, 4speed is fully ok for this swap, I won´t look for a 5th gear box since everything from B engine will work fine. If you need some information feel free to ask. and the Hose that u was asking on diesel does not do anything is just a presure hose with a filter. on mine was full of dirt, I took it away clean it and replace the filter with a new one.

@aljollano I don't have anymore excuses for not installing the mud flaps now. New exhaust and muffler went on today with strict orders to leave outside of frame rails free for mud flap install.

Very cool. Looking forward to see them on!!
They are going to match perfect with the color of your truck!

More pics from downpipe how it loops around the frame please
That's the section I should have been more specific with the shop but I was only anal about the rear when telling them what I wanted. They ran it lower than I would have liked instead of beside the frame rail like it was. Although I wasn't a fan of how it was before either. I tried to find a way to keep it inside the frame but there isn't room. I am going to have them redo that section. It was an east side place next to my work so it was more about convenience than anything else.

A few more things in the works. First off I am taking the truck to Colorado next month, Solid Axle Summit, so a few necessities were a roof and tunes. I missed my opportunity to purchase a soft top and have in time so I have started to put the hard top back on with all new weatherstripping. I also have been making a overhead console and its almost to the point of final fitment before wrapping it in carpet. Going with carpet rather than vinyl so I can stick Velcro to it. It will have radio, CB, USB plug, speakers, dome lights, and maybe a iPad mini mount when it's all done. The truck came with a Costa Rica special but it was cheaply made. I was able to find a nice free piece of wood at work and will reuse the stereo and CB that were laying around in the garage.

And the highlight of the day for me was mocking up the rear mud flaps. There are two holes in the stock frame already that are perfect location to make a metal bracket.

What grade of pipe did they use. I have to redo mine once i put the turbo on. It has a side exit now infront of passenger wheel so not sure if i wanna leave it there or route it all the way back. Im going with a aeroturbine muffler
