Thanks for the heads up.. Gonna look into it. i got these b.c they had great reviews. I had already 2 OEM seals go out on me, i wanted something that would work.

search on mud under the 80 series forum, been there done that, they will leak, make sure your axles do not have grooving, you can offset the stock seals a bit to run in a different place. I also used a little jb weld on the axle groove and sanded it smooth to fill the groove. So far no leaks for several years. The marlin seals are really junk on the 80 series. On other trucks they work great.

Replaced the air compressor with a new OEM Denso Air compressor and clutch.

Out with the old

Well as I find out what is happening with a loud rattling noise in my engine, I will continue my build.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/help-me-identify-this-engine-rattling-noise-video-included.838104/

Today, I installed a sound dampener and insulation all over the floor of the truck. I used FatMat on my previous 80 build and all I can say it makes the inside of the cabin much more quieter and keeps the tranny heat out. Make that truck feel much more solid when off road. Plus this will lay the ground work for my new OEM carpet that will get installed as well. Tomorrow I will do all 4 doors as well. So I went ahead and purchased 100 sq ft of the FatMat sounds dampening. It is 80 mil thick.

Took me about 4 hours.. Not long at all.. When I did my LX, I used up most of the the 2 rolls (comes in 50 sq ft rolls), When I did it today I used up 1 roll and about 1/4 of the second one. I have left over for the doors. Sweet!

Any status update on sound?

Nice work - I used about 140 sf and still have to do the roof when I redo the headliner..... it's truly worth the time...

I used a visco nylon matt from Lowes over it on the flat areas and that really helped as well - Lowes sells it as Golf Cart parking matt....about 60 bucks.

Sending you a PM on the switches finally as well....

Cheers.

UPDATE: Well I received my new OEM PS pump, put it in and well the noise was still there. It would only go away when I put some resistance on the steering wheel. So I ordered a PS gearbox. That came in, replaced my old with the new one. Noise is 90% gone, still have the ratteling sound, sounds like a metal on metal rattle, so I have been reading and the only thing I havent replaced is the PS Pump Gear, ordered that this week, just waiting for it to come in. I have been reading around and its interesting how this gear can create so much noise. Mine had some indentations from when I unknowingly used the vise to remove the gear nut. And my gear may not be seated correctly

Ok, does the sound deadening mat really make that much of a difference ? Its not cheap and it looks like a pain to take out all the carpet and seats and trim. The one thing I notice when you drive a newer vehicle is you don't hear all the wind and road noise when your going down the highway. Is it going to be like that after you install mat ? Won't you still have a bunch of noise from wind passing over all the glass ? The long drives down the highway listening to all of that does get old.

Its reduces the noise by at least half if not more. If you have good weatherstripping on the doors then wind noise isnt much of a factor. I love driving in a car that is nice and quiet. Makes a nice difference

Just found this thread. Nice work. Also I will chime in that the noise mat is worth it! Have put it on several cars now, although, I find that the door area is the largest improvement. Anyway, I have my engine/tranny out of my 40th right now and I am debating on spraying sound deadener from Al's on the firewall and above tranny. Seems like much engine noise is transmitted in that area.

I always use the shutz guns, but was not happy using it on monstaliner. Plan to use it with Al's, but really have found no information online about using the sound deadener yet.
