More evidence why the LX is quieter than the Land Cruiser

If I was to go ahead any Dynamat the LX, what are the most crucial areas?

I have done full interior dynamat on my brother's car (all floors, transmission tunnel, doors, rear seats).

I am thinking about starting the LX and putting some on the floor of the rear cargo area and on the rear wheel housings once I get all the plastic trim off inside. Any other areas?

Plot twist!

It seems both 6786360020 and 6788760010 have been discontinued :(

Anyone have a reliable way to source these? I've already tried a few local dealerships and I might have a lead on the former, but the latter seems to be missing nationwide.

Any one have leads on Lexus parts (new or used)?

I ordered from an online dealership, a few days later they said they weren't getting them. Amayama had them, wound up being even cheaper too!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I got the majority on www.lexuspartsnow but am waiting for a the two passenger side bottom door seals from a dealership in Sacramento (www.lparts247.com) with an ETA of early July.

Oddly enough, I found that although the two bottom velvet strips were labeled passenger side parts, they were in reality drivers side seals (labeled that way from the factory but clearly meant for the other side based on how they fit in the indentation.

Everything else was a 1 banana job including the rear leading edge seals and the cowl seals in the front door jambs. For the cowl seals, the trick for me was opening the front doors all the way and sliding the seals in from the outside and getting them lined up that way and then hammering the plugs home with a light tap on a long wrench from inside the truck.

I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but am looking forward to getting some results once all parts are in.

Just want to share that I bought this generic rubber seal (Ebay purchase $3.57 4M Good Quality Rubber Seal Weather Strip Fit For Car Motor Door Z Shape HEL | eBay) to seal the top part of the door leading edge. It works pretty good in combination with the OEM lower leading edge (part 67896-60020 and 67895-60020). Wife even notice that the LC is quieter (a big win here ).

Since I do not have any way to measure the sound, I am going to drive around a bit to get used to this, and then will add a generic bottom door seal - will update here when I do this. Lets see if the wife will notice the changes. Here are some close up pictures of the seal.

Thanks for the update @bctlex.

Thought I'd add my two cents with the under door seals.

I think one reason they appear to help on the LC is because I had already soundproofed almost everything below the windows. The door seals mitigated wind noise coming from the bottom of the doors.

Looking forward to trying the seals between the doors and front cowls.

Let me know what you guys think of this, the way it looks to me is it's the front fender seal we've been looking for but I could be wrong

Did you ever install these and are these the right part numbers for the front fender seals @TheForger?

Negative, I have not gotten around to it yet. I meant to install them before I left for Colorado but all of my higher priority mods and preventative maintenance "to-do's" took up too much time. I will be home the 16th and I plan on starting it then.

I went ahead and placed an order for the parts and quantities I listed in that post. They should be on my porch when I get home so I will update this thread once I get them installed.

I got the fender-to-cowl seals in today and installed them both. A few notes about these: (1) the additional clips are unnecessary because the seals come with them already; (2) on my 2000 LC there is no hole for the top clip to fit into, so I had to run it without for the time being. I may go back and add some double-sided tape where that clip would be to stick it to the fender, but unless you take the door off there is no way you will be able to get a drill back there to make a hole. I assume the later models that come with the seals already have those holes in the fender. Other than that install was fairly easy. You do have to monkey around with them a bit to make them fit between the door and fender while the door is partially open, but once you get it back there snapping it into place is easy. Looking at the design it really seems like these should make a difference. Keyword being should...there is an open-cell foam that lines the backside of the weatherstrip and it makes a nice seal where the body transitions into the fender (there is usually a gap here). Hard to explain and hard to get quality pictures, but you will understand if you see them in person. I will give me opinion on road/wind noise tomorrow when I drive it.

*Disregard all the dirt and trail rash, she's beaten not babied (too much):)

Before the seal, the two holes are circled but as you can see there is no top hole

I may put some double-sided tape where the hole is to keep the top part in place

The foam makes a nice seal around the door hinge as well

Not sure if you saw this or accidentally skipped over it but I got the fender-to-cowl seals installed @SmoothLC. Read my notes above as the additional clips are unnecessary.

Would you say they made a difference?

I haven't had any interstate time since I installed them but they do seem to make a very slight difference in noise levels. It seems like the wind noise coming from the gap between the front and rear doors is more noticeable, so that led me to believe it reduced the noise coming in from the front enough to make the noise coming from the gap in the doors behind me more noticeable. I still haven't replaced the seal that adds to the top of that gap, I only have the seal for the bottom part of that gap so that will be my next project. However, it does reduce the amount of air that gets into the cabin which is great for me because I've been battling that issue for a while now. I barely feel any air coming between my drivers seat and the door anymore so I am very happy about that.

Thanks for the heads up. Was out a few days viewing this sun thingy and haven't had time to respond.

I'm interested in doing both the front cowls and the LX door surrounds. Interested in your opinion on which to do first depending on which gives the best noise reduction.

I'll comment on which to do first once I get the rear door surrounds. I'm contemplating whether I should go with the Lexus brand weatherstripping at $50/ea. or the generic weather seal that someone else used a few pages back in this thread. Fair warning - with school starting back up and work getting real busy (I work at a pharmacy and apparently people like to get sick this time of year) it may be a few weeks before I make a decision and purchase one or the other. I'll keep this thread updated with any progress though.
