I think a puff of black is Ok as long as it cleans up once the turbo is spooling. Certainly not into rolling coal.

If the term "rolling coal" implies that you over fuel so that you black smoke all the time, you probably won't be "rolling coal" for very long.

If you dump in 300hp worth of fuel at idle, it's going to black smoke.

Your post made it seem like you can punch it at speed and "ink them" with black smoke if someone tries to pass you. That's not a puff of black smoke off-idle, that's rolling coal.

I don't care to discuss your truck any further. Start up another thread and we can nit-pick each other's setups. Right now, in this thread, I am interested to see what people have for a storage system after removing the rear seats.

I have no interest in "nit-picking" I am not sure where I have done that... I also did not come into your thread to discuss my truck, I came here to ask you questions about your truck... which I believe I did...

You initiated a subject change when you called me out for "rolling coal", fair enough. I responded, end of sub topic.

I do have interest in constructive feedback, which is why I am on this forum. This thread appears to be about your rig, so I asked you a question about it, while expressing excitement that I was achieving decent fuel economy. I do realize that the term "ink" implies a heavy cloud of black smoke, fair enough. I did not take your comment personally, but I did respond to it because I don't want to be known for something that isn't true.

If you didn't want me to respond, you probably shouldn't have said anything in the first place.

Good day.

I'm happy to provide answers to questions, or to provide advice, but it's not warranted that you write a massive post to clarify two words you put in a comment. It certainly seemed like you took it personally.

I am impressed about your fuel economy. I've never been able to get better than 21mpg, but that's likely because I enjoy driving faster than I should with the new motor :steer:

Now, let's keep it positive and move forward.

I'll agree that I often type too much. I am working on my wall-o-text posts.

I know what you mean about enjoying the power though... geez, I could not imagine going back.

Johnny, your still rocking a fridge aren't you?. What is your plan on working around it for storage? I gave up on storage once i got the fridge since i didn't want to build around it and I like accessing the fridge from the window instead of a slide. Building any platform for the fridge to sit on would hamper my ability to open it all the way.

Excellent question! Yes, I definitely still have the fridge and I do want to build around it. Currently it sits on top of my drawers in the rear and gives enough clearance so that I can almost entirely open the lid.

I'm thinking about two options for the fridge:

1. Sink it down inbetween my existing drawers and the front seats. Might be able to get it low enough that a mattress pad would "conceal" it.
2. Eliminate one of the rearmost, or redesign them alltogether, so I can sink the fridge down in the back.

Not sure what the pros/cons would be of either. Looking for suggestions.

FWIW I have my fridge mounted behind the pass seat on the floor. I think my rear seat is going to be permanently out of the truck. I am going to build storage in the back but not as a sleeping platform. I will leave the fridge mounted where it is and build around it.

In my FJ60, I put in a full length 1/2 plywood floor mounted on the rear floor and then a light weight metal frame over the foot well. THe foot well serves as covered storage of heavy items like axle shafts, knuckles, hubs etc. You can pack in more than you might think. On the flat floor, I have the fridge behind the passenger seat. Plenty of room to sleep inside and stretch out. My wife does not like the 60 so it's just me, but even with the fridge you could sleep 2 in a pinch, like a storm or wind.

I took out the back seat 6-7 years ago and kept it around for years thinking I might need it. Finally, I was cleaning the garage and realized that seat was never going back in and it went in the dumpster.

This has been the latest idea in my head since I like sleeping in the back. Just a plain flat floor with anchor points. Maybe bolt some drawers to it that could be removed.

I mentioned it to you about a year ago over text Johnny but I STILL think there's a lot of good room to be exploited underneath the truck. It just needs a LOT of engineering to keep stuff secure, safe and clean.

I want to keep the storage sectioned into bins with latching hinged top lids. I will store my spare laying flat on the floor at the back. Open the rear hatch and slide the tire out. It'll have a non hinged lid in case I need access to the entire tire storage space. The spaces around the tire will be for misc stuff.
The top can have some rings to strap down light stuff.

I really like these tie-downs. What are you planning on doing for a spare tire J?

Those coretrax tie downs are the bomb.

Costco used to sell sets there were very attractively priced and the back of my 60 has 1 1/2 sets of them. I put a run of them at the peremiter all the way around (minus the wheelwells), and then a second group just below the rear windows. Then I used some scraps to make the fridge tie downs. So basically from any angle you can attach a ratchet strap and really snug things down.

Including these in your install is highly recommended.

@woytovich did you build any sort of platform around your fridge or is the fridge just there on the floor?

Have any pics of your setup? That's more or less what I was thinking, as I keep my highlift, driveshafts, a crowbar, axleshafts in that footwell.

I'm in the "I might need it someday" stage with my rear seat. It'll stay in my attic right now, but there are no plans to put it in.

Lots of engineering that I don't want to do :p

The fridge sits on a piece of plywood, hooked to it with the ARB handle tie down straps to 4 eye bolts at the corners of the plywood. The plywood is held down with some brackets I built that go to the existing floor seat mount brackets. Low tech, low buck, but functional.

Right, so you haven't built a platform around the fridge, it just sits alone on that platform on the floor, right?
