We got the cage started yesterday, we've got some learning to do with working out our bends but we managed to make it work and is actually going to come out alright.

023.jpg

The plan is to make it a 4 seater cage, with an almost horizontal hoop coming off the B pillar, going to go over to the C pillar with a post in the corners.
Sort of like a poor mans version of this cage

got the shackles made up, 200mm centers.
Had to test the flex as well

019-1.jpg

The rear isn't really working much, which I put down to having little weight over the back wheels. I need to extend some bumstops in the front as well obviously, probably not great for the springs to be going that far.

Bit of side protection done over the last couple of days.
003-22.jpg

This side still in progress
004-19.jpg

All bogged up and painted on the other side, Its got a little tie back to the B pillar.
005-15.jpg

And this to brace the rear of the cab.

Also got my new ute yesterday. Bit nicer to drive than the old lux.
006-13.jpg

The car is almost drivable now, just waiting on my shocks to turn up. I have gone away from running just gas for now, I will give this carby a chance and see how it goes on the test run in a couple of weeks, if its still no good then the gas will go on.
002-22.jpg

Got the other side protection finished and gave it a little bit of paint, also the cage is all done and painted bar the harness mounts. We decided not to go with the 4 seater cage for time and space constraints (and 'cos the navvy didn't like and chucked a tantrum)
004-20.jpg

Thinking that's where the tire will mount, I think
003-23.jpg

Cut the guard a bit too, gives it a cool look I think, a lot of work though. Had make up a few pieces of tin and work our way around the inner guard to tidy it up. We have got a few pieces of tube bent up for brush bars, one will follow the guard off the slider to the stinger bar and one will come off the cage and run along side the bonnet and go to the stinger. All the spacers went on today as well, nice and wide!

Getting pretty close to being ready now. Here's whats happened over the last couple of weeks.

Made up a ladder bar, 60 series bushes and 32nb Med. wall.
003-24.jpg

004-21.jpg

Cut and shut the other guard, with some bar work around it.
006-14.jpg

005-16.jpg

009-12.jpg

On top of this stuff we have also capped the doors, made up some door trims and trims for the back part of the cab all out of 1.6mm steel, filled the old snorkel holes and done a fair bit of tidying up
Also bought/ had arrive some goodies this week
Some d34 blue tops for running 24v through the tigerz11 winch
013-6.jpg

Some Isotta 4 point racing harnesses
014-4.jpg

A Total Offroad air locker
012-5.jpg

And a few of these bad boys
011-8.jpg

The plan is to have the shocks mounted and do some wiring to run spotties, in cab controls for the winch and the 24v cabling. :D

Thanks mate, getting there!

Hers a few pics from the last couple of days.
We have got the shocks all mounted up, just need to get some tube to make some spacers to mount them up. We also moved all the batteries into the back and all wired up, got the 24v hooked up and the in cab controls for the winch. We ran the tigerz winch on 24v for a few seconds and none of the smoke leaked out, so that's a bonus.

001-23.jpg

002-23.jpg

005-17.jpg

Reverse light and spare mounted to cage
003-26.jpg

HID's at the front and gave the grill a coat of silver
002-24.jpg

Put a bracing tie between shock towers, mostly for wank factor.
004-23.jpg

Put the intake in through the firewall, it sits up under the dash and will have a pod filter on it

That is all for now, this weekend I will add a bit of windscreen protection and then start pulling everything off and get it all ready for paint.

On the to do list is
-Respray
-24v alternator
-bash plate
- tube in the doors for removable window frames
and a handfull of other little jobs, have to have it ready by Saturday week so about 9 days to go.

Edit/add
A few more updates,Simmo has got pretty much all the wiring sorted so lights are starting to come on, the wiring was super messy and it has tidied up pretty well.

Laid some paint down today. It certainly isn't perfect and you can still see previous battle scars but at least it is all the same color now, two more coats tomorrow, we will be pulling down the front axle and install the locker and tidying up all the barwork for paint.

And here is a facebook for a video of me warming the tires up putting it on the tilt tray. Not sure if that will work.

A big thanks to Az, Terry and especially Simmo (and Tellissa for being understanding/ letting me steal her carport for 2 months).

I didn't say what broke on saturdays test run/photo shoot. I busted an air line( it just split for no apparent reason), a strap broke came back and smashed the head light, HID spoty and the grill, we had the switches in the solenoid running 24v so that welded the solenoid on and it pulled a tree over and the springs on the driver side sagged too much so we are going to throw 1 or two more leave on the drivers side. I also weighed it on Saturday, it came in at 2200kg, a bit more than I expected but not too bad.

Here is some pics of other stuff we have done in the last week or so
007-14.jpg

24v alternator
004-26.jpg

door storage on both sides
003-29.jpg

gutted the dash and made up a switch panel
006-15.jpg

bigger winch hook
009-13.jpg

4 point harnesses
008-17.jpg

new grill and headlight, I will probably run the lightforce 240s for the comp now I have busted the 170.
005-19.jpg

total offroad and mackay4x4 stickers

Here is a few pics from the comp.

That last photo is where I bent the diff for the last time, was fun though and will more than likely make the dvd.

So on the repair/mod list for the june comp is 60 series diffs, replace springs w/more leaves this time, clutch, and put in a flat pitman arm (if I can find one that will work).

Not surprised you bent it looking at your last pic haha

Great picz

i like the build, nice job. :steer:
the girl in the back ground of the last pic :hhmm: could bend my "diff" :hillbilly:

Thanks mate, i actually bent it on the 3rd stage of the weekend, we attempted to straighten it out in the bush, end up just welding more steel to it and completed another 7 stages until that photo happened, still finished the stage.

Thanks crushers, still a few other things I want to change on it but it's at a stage where I can change things between comps. The girls name is jackie, she works for Opposite Lock, a local 4wd accessories shop. I go in there a bit.:)

Here is a few more pics, done by professional photographers.

You can see the front driverside wheel has got some serious camber, that was the 3rd stage of the weekend. We tried to pull it back together to no avail, so we just added more steel and weld and run it as it was.
