Yeah mate getting there. it should be ok i'm hoping, Because it should be fairly low by the time i'm finished, I'll clearance it if needs be. The photo above is just the shaft hanging there.

I lifted the alternator up high in the engine bay today, so I don't have the same problem as I did at the easter comp.

Alright, so I finally got the fixed pin brackets made to the right size. So I tacked everything in place yesterday after making several cock ups. Today I sat the diff under and made sure it was all good then I burnt everything in. Such a pain in the arse trying to weld those brackets onto the chassis, the inside ones was welded by feel, I'm average even when I can see what I'm doing. She'll be right :D

Rear springs up front, I'm going to make some shackles about 30mm longer, I've got a cool idea for them too

I pulled the front diff down and shaved the bottom today. I also TIG welded it for the first time on job, not a practice piece. Still not pretty but I had to do a few passes just to make sure there was no holes.

OK so I've finally got the front axle back in. It's all braced, shaved and stengthened, I also got some of the 37's mounted up with a sikaflex beadlock. check it out!

Bit of diff beef

Bit of swivel ball and steering arm beef

Had to test the flex, fairly happy with it, there is more droop available from the springs/shackle, but it is binding in the bushes before it gets there.

This is how she is sitting now on 37's

Approach angle is about 65 degrees according to the angle finder.

I moved it forward 30mm (1 1/4") with the spring perch, I'm not sure it moved forward any with the rear springs up the front. I will more than likely cut the back of the font guard out, I would like to run 40's one day, so I would like to keep plenty of room in the guards.

Got the front bar back from the laser cutters, then I got straight to welding it up.

Thats how it goes with the recovery on top of the chassis mount.
P1010984.jpg

Built on the same angle as the approach angle.
P1010986.jpg

Glued together.
P1010987.jpg

Have to notch the body a little bit to clear the winch.
P1010988.jpg

Thats how the winch will sit, just a little lower.

Got the bar all painted up and the winch installed.

I'll probably have to chop a s***load out of the apron, I may just leave it off and tidy it up with paint and put a 79 series grill on it.
P1010995.jpg

I added a couple of little braces to the fold, not sure it needed but it can't hurt. If the front face bends from the weight on it I'll weld some strips to the front the bar, don't think it will bend though.

Looking good so far mate , when will you take her for a spin

A little while away yet mate, I still gotta do drive shafts and shock mounts break lines etc. But I'm going to thailand next and we move into the house me and my girlfriend bought when we get back. First on the agenda will be to build a bloody great big shed, very busy so it will be some time in the new year before it gets any attention.

Looking tough & you've put a lot of work in to it. I can't wait to see the finished result.

A shame to cut up all the work you did to make it a tourer. I thought in some of the pics it looked a bit like a new FJ Cruiser in that colour with the rack on top.

Long time no update, been busy with the new house and general laziness. Simmo and i made a square front drive shaft with a 60 series double cardan joint today.

fully compressed

60mm from separation

hoping we did good and its not completely horrible to drive with.

The cruiser got moved to Simmos place on the weekend and we had a big day on it yesterday.

Off that list yesterday was, front driveshaft in, rear shaft made, rear leaves are in(need longer shackles), the gearbox crossmember is notched and the stinger bar was made and tacked on.

Then we were sitting there at about 10.30, finished the carton of beer, got bored and decided that we needed something to do, so we did.

More updates soon, going to be a big week with the girlfriend away.

Been busy. Got the gearbox x-member all braced and plated and bolted back in with the flash bulletproof gear box mount, made a new exhaust today with straight through pipe onto a hotdog for each side, chopped all the window frames out, then there was lots of shopping this morning buying stuff to get it done. Cage starts tomorrow.
