Wow I feel fleeced since I bought these in Dec for $800. Terrible. I would have gone tg for $300 if I had known...

IMO the difference is marginal anyway, in case anyone wants to know. I don't think it's worth the hassle or cost. The transfer case is a heavy pig to remove and install, too. I wouldn't recommend just trying to leave half on the rig.

Left mine in the rig, as well as 4-5 other sets. :meh:

One thing i totally forgot that applies to all this is: the strong dollar - weak yuan - weak aussie dollar and strong yen.

- weak chinese Yuan relative to dollar is the likely reason TG could drop prices so aggressively. PBOC recent yuan devaluation.

- weak aussie dollar might make the Marks gears a bunch less expensive as $1=1.40ish aud.

- Strong Yen to usd= no bueno if Marlin was sourcing his gears in Japan as Yen has been rising vs usd of late. (for some reason i thought Marlin was using same oem toy supplier out of Japan) but i may have confused this with other products.

I met Marlin last year at an event at K2 here in Texas and he invited me to his event on the Rubicon. Got to camp in the VIP section at Rubicon Springs and were 3 tents away! Super nice guy and I like that he seems to actually enjoy talking with people rather than doing it just to be nice like some other big names I've met.

I didn't know there was a "vip section" at rubicon? do they have red ropes and crystal? lol......

Interesting view. So you didn't think the 25% gearing reduction was enough? Some folks say it's the best mod they've ever done.

Well, I think it'll create less lurchiness for most people but I think the reviews thus far are an artifact of people convincing themselves it was worth the cash. As someone who now feels thoroughly fleeced, I definitely don't think it was worth the cash. On the plus side, I fixed my leaky front output seal when I removed the case from the rig and got a good peak at the inside bits. It's very assuring how beefy it's all built.

Transfer case gears are only one half of the equation IMO.

The bees-knees with the 80 series is the transfer reduction combined with going as low as possible in the diffs: in this case, 5.29's. That was a great combination and made trails like the Dusy a proverbial "walk in the park."

They had a gate by the grassy area that led back to a camping section right by the water. Marlin only allows certain people back there and by certain people he means no loud party types.

It's the area in the top part of this picture.

also- for those who chose to keep a more hyw friendly- longer trip type 80 and went with 4.88s.....the added 25% helps keep the 80 in that sweet spot of a more dual-purpose balanced rig.

Having run the 4.88s since the group buy- im definitely glad i didnt go 5.29s and the added 25% gear for me will just add to the yin-yang of the rig.
