This manual came with our (early) 62 FJ40:
edit, forgot the pics, sorry for the upside downs.

Very cool VIN on that one in the manual! Numero uno!

That's the closest I've seen to confirming that #1 FJ40 was indeed 1FJ40-10001. Wonder how the F1406110 engine number compares with other VIN's.

From the registry: the youngest fj25 has F126626
"Little sister" 1FJ40-10127 from west Aussie has F141904

If we forget the "0" the engine number is right. But where did the other 14000 engines go?

annie, 1962, f172768, so another huge gap between 61 and 62. besides trucks, were there forklifts then. bet they were used there also.

The 1963/64 Owner's Manuals post in the Owner's Manual reference thread discusses the green/purple and brown/gold cover manuals. The green/purple cover manual looks to be from 1964 since it discusses the Combination Meter ammeter. The brown/gold cover manual is from 1963 as it discusses the Combination Meter charge warning lamp. Although the manuals are almost identical, other differences include:

Brown/Gold Cover (1963), No. 6008
-The Combination Meter section on page 5, has Charge Warning Lamp as point (1)
-Metal box tool kit is pictured on page 37

Green/Purple Cover (1964), No. 6040
-The Combination Meter section around page 5, has Ammeter as point (1)
-Metal box tool kit is pictured on page 38
-Has an additional page ?? that discusses ??

Both manuals originally included a fold-out periodic maintenance chart. The chart is referenced at the beginning of the manual in the New Car Operation section, "(Refer to Lubrication Chart at back of manual)"

oddly, my green/purple (pinkish) has charge as point 1, not ammeter. it does have the metal box on 38. the number on mine (assuming you're looking at back cover) is 97200. on the extra page, is yours blank? and at what page number? i have the lube chart also, but it is not referenced in the table of contents

That is interesting, so there are 2 different versions of the green/purple(pinkish) manual.

No. 6040 on back cover.

Found this cover image online. The colors are different than above, don't have the back cover image.
Perhaps this is 97200? The 1965 Owner's Manual back cover is numbered 97202, so 97200 seems more in line with
the later manual numbering than the early manuals (6008, 6040).

Not sure what/where the extra page is. I don't have the full green/purple manual, just cover images and few pages. The table of contents of the earlier (brown/gold) manual is this, with the Service Tools and Jack noted on page 37.

The reference to the lubrication chart follows the "3. Chassis Grease" section on page #2.

Other funny thing is the orientation.

The 25 manual is portrait, the 63 and 64 manuals are portrait, but my 62 manual is landscape.

The additional page in the green/purple cover manual is page 17, which covers the heater controls. This scan from a 97200 manual.

I have never seen the three way cock. Now I am going to see if any of mine have that...

Like a dummy I’ve been posting some of this stuff over in the tools thread. Everybody was too nice to correct me, so apologies for the double posts. Was just browsing this thread again tonight and decided I needed to move some of them over. I have more I need to get scanned in once I get a little free time.
