Can we conclude there's no benefit of changing out the shock unless it's leaking?
I literally have zero experience with this, but one other piece to add to the equation when it comes to rear shocks, especially with how inexpensive they are. When @nwfl4runner posted his thread on rebuilding his rear suspension. He said the worst bushings he removed were the ones attached to the shocks. So maybe worth doing purely as a bushing replacement, rather than for it's affect on damping.

I talked to a guy I know with a LX470. He had been in -40 to -60 with his regularly as he has a cabin near Denali and spent 5 years in Fairbanks. He said had never gotten an error or failure just the one time he tested it at -60 it wouldn’t lower or raise although he also mentioned he did the test within 5min of starting it to make sure it was as cold as possible.
Hope to read all the way through, but for now
I just wanted to chime in...even though I'm a few years late :)

Chicago/midwest experienced that Polar Vortex 1/30/2019. I think a record was set this day for -26 degrees.

It shows I drove 5.5 hours and 205 miles. However, 5 hours drive means the car was running another 5 hours or more.

So, there you have it. No problemos in Chitowns -26 Polar Vortex

I wasn’t able to find it in this thread so forgive me if it’s been addressed. I have a 2017 LX and the AHC automatically lowers if the vehicle is shut off right when I park, however if I sit for a few seconds prior to shutting off the AHC does not lower. Is that normal? The dealership says it’s functioning as designed but that seems abnormal to me.

Yes. Has to be within 30s of being in park I believe. It’s in the manual.

Also, all doors must be closed in case you’ve noticed it doesn’t lower if someone opens a door too quick.

It is a feature called something like “easy entry/exit, you can turn off in settings.

Thank you, rookie mistake not looking in the manual.
Side note, do you have any experience with a hard shift/shudder between 1st and 2nd under 20mph? I’ve had the TSB done but it still does it.

Driveshaft needs to be lubricated. Had same issue when I got mine. Previous owner never done anything to it. Services by Lexus in the past but apparently by not a good one.
Also suggest replacing AHC fluid if you hit 60k. Records indicated it was done and there is no way that’s what come out from that AHC system was after 5k of driving.

I don’t think I ever posted a picture before when I did my first fluid flush. I did a bleed on my AHC today and added a liter of fluid. Here’s the cheap easy tool I found for getting fluid into the reservoir. You still have to be slow with it, even with the filter screen removed, it will over run the filler neck at full “blast”. The yellow section is a valve to control flow.

Brave man with hydraulic fluid on parchment interior.
Ha, no doubt. At this point, I hadn't actually done anything with the fluid. Just off to the side there were plenty of shop towels and after i actually used the filler tube, it never went back on the tailgate. It was basically only there for 30 seconds so I could take the picture...The risks I take for Mud members..

Had my AHC fluid flushed last year by a local independent mechanic. Ride has been rough lately where I can feel every little bump/crack in the road. Opened up the access panel to the reservoir, used a flashlight to backlight the reservoir. I can’t see any fluid in there whatsoever. Gently pushed the reservoir back and forth to try to see some sloshing. Nothing. Ordered 4 liters of fluid off eBay. After reading this thread I’ll probably order two more. Hoping it isn’t bone dry in there.

If it was bone dry, you'd have a low pressure event and AHC errors on the dash. For the rough ride however, you might want to look at a thread from @tbisaacs where he swapped his accumulators. Think you can grab a set from japan off ebay for ~$1k.

That said, doesn't hurt to top off the res to the max line while in normal height.

Good point on the dash lights. I’m in Florida and checked it in the driveway so it might just be too bright to see the fluid even with a flashlight behind the res.

I did look at the globes on eBay. I read through this thread and cost for globes has def gone up, like everything else for sale.

Going to try the fluid flush/bleed first and see what that does.

Rough ride is definitely a sign that your accumulators are shot. I paid $599 pre-pandemic, same seller has them for $744. Still significantly cheaper than US dealer prices.

Thanks for the link! I guess I should suck it up and pay for the globes.
