LX470 / LC100 Borla Cat Back Exhaust Upgrade

My 2007 LX muffler is finally on it's way out at 211,000 miles and the last 9 yrs in salty MN winters. Currently it has a nice throaty sound, but not for much longer. I've heard people replace the system with the Borla 14814, but exclude the resonator. My LX is a daily driver, so don't want it to be obnoxiously loud, but a good rumble would be nice.

My indy mechanic said it would be too loud and my wife wouldn't appreciate it. Anyone with the Borla exhaust and no resonator? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I ran mine with essentially no functional muffler after the cat the first several years I owned it until the inspection place finally caught it and failed me. Replaced with the Borla cat-back and was immediately disappointed in how quiet it was. Started it up with the cat-back disconnected and finally realized how little muffling I had from the start. I would have no hesitation to run the borla without the resonator, but I actually really liked the sound I originally had. I'm tempted to (at some point) just run a straight pipe after the cats.

matter of taste... I don't think it's as good, but the stock cats provide an excellent muffling effect. Makes it just loud enough that I can actually hear the engine without being annoying on the road.

for comparison, my cammed and stroked LS1 in my trans am was running long tubes with no cats and a 3" x-pipe exhaust with a flowmaster (not my choice)... it was (perhaps not-so-lovingly) referred to as a "hog caller". I was never happy with that either. my buddy had an LS2 GTO that was straight-piped after the OEM cats and it sounded so much better. I'm still running my LS3 corvette on entirely stock exhaust and it's still much louder than the LX with the Borla, but not much of a fan of the stock exhaust note on it either.

based on my previous experiences (and now that my LX is 25 years old, not subject to emissions testing, and equipped with headers), one other thing I'm wanting to play with is replacing the small diameter cats with high flow cats and seeing how much difference exhaust diameter and combinations of resonator and muffler have on the sound.

I've heard enough built UZ engines that I know they can sound good, it's just figuring out a combination that I prefer while keeping catalytic converters.

I have the Medallion cat back exhaust which doesn't have the resonator, and there is an annoying drone around 2k RPM for me. Just below or above and it disappears. I just up the radio, but it does sound more aggressive without the resonator.
