I've decided it's time for 40's, so I'm starting to order parts. I was concerned with the strength of the 5.29 pinion gear so I decided to do 4.88's which theoretically have a stronger pinion gear and more contact patch, but with the transfer case 10% high range under drive kit and the low range 25% gear reduction(really 33.3% reduction when coupled with the 10% high UD). Versus the 5.29's this should give me effectively a 5.35 in high and a 5.195 in low(I might need some help on that math), plus the 25% reduction in low. I will probably also have the diff gears cryo'ed.
New stuffs:
T case high range 10% underdrive
T case low range 25% reduction
T case part time kit with AVM billet selectable front hubs
4.88 Nitro diff gears F/R with solid pinion spacers
RCV 300M front axles
Nitro chromoly rear axles
ARP drive flnage studs with nord locks
ARP knuckle studs with nord locks
Metal tech upper and lower rear control arms
Moto Farkles 9.5" land cruiser diff armor for rear
Ballistic fab 8" front bottom skid plate and 8" diff armor(Not sure what I'm doing with the panhard/track bar with this front cover)
Comeup 12.5RS winch(already installed, smittybuilt is gone)
I also ordered and installed the toyota center diff lock switch and installed it and did the pin 7 mod. I have had a few issues with the truck, one trip out wheeling it would pop an EFI fuse instantly, there ended up being water in the front O2 sensor connector. I later had an issue where it would pop an EFI fuse intermittently under high load, I later determined it only did it in reverse. It ended up being the pre cat O2 hitting the body under high load in 4L in reverse and grounding out, which ended up being caused by both motor mounts being completely separated so I replaced both of those. I also tightened up my AC belt which had been intermittently squealing, that took me long enough! I had to cut my last wheeling trip short as the rear lower control arms buckled so far that the body was shaving chunks off the tire under compression
I like the vapors on the 80 look good! Are you on Texas overland on facebook? If not join.
Yup, I'm on there, I've posted a few times but I wouldn't really consider myself an overlander.
love the fabrication work so far, hows the body mounted sliders holding up? I have wanted sliders that are tucked way up there Just wasn't sure what to do.
Great, they've taken tons of big hits, although I'm ready to extend them out for more protection on the doors. I'm thinking starting from scratch and cutting off the lower rockers/body area, fabbing some patch panels, then doing some frame mounted sliders that're just below the doors.
