I forgot to post a little detail on the sliders. I put some adhesive backed rubber strip on top of the body pinch seam support to prevent rubbing and paint removal. The 3 ft sections were a little short so I cut them as seen below to span the entire length of the support. I think it turned out pretty nice!

Yes sir! I tried to get as far away from the New England rust as possible to buy it! That, and this swap was complete by Torfab, so I have a little more faith in it.
what have you done to stop rust from eating her up?? Mine is a California truck so It still has undercoating

Because I'm too lazy to do it myself, I'm going to have this done:

Rustoration | The Rust Stop Pros

I did it on my Tacoma and, though it only had 1 New England winter under it's belt, it didn't develop any rust before I sold it. My LC was originally from Alaska, as it turns out. So, compared to most rigs here, its totally rust free. But, by west coast standards, it does have some. So, it will be nice when they clean/encapsulate what rust is currently down there.

So... we had a crazy storm out here for the last 2 days. Our part of our street is the only location that has power and most of our neighbors aren't getting power back for 3 or 4 days. As a result, lots of trees went down and there were real water crossings on my way to work. When I exited the freeway, I hit some water (18-20") at about 35 mph. Of course, water shot up everywhere and I had a great time. After that, I noticed that my turbo sounded funny... like there was a fan sound in addition to turbine sound. Classic boost leak symptom. While at work, I popped the hood and was surprised to see this:

Immediately, I start thinking about blow-by. Now, I knew that the turbo was good for my 23psi and that people run 23 psi on 1HDTs all the time. So, I decided to give Torfab a call and see what they thought. Tor said "TURN THAT BOOST DOWN!" Apparently, he had recently discovred (through 2 Gturbo failures) that the stock airbox can't flow anywhere near enough to feed a Gturbo. Because of this, suction is created in the intake pipe, sucking the through the engine breather and getting oil. In the worst cases, he has seen the compressor get sucked into the housing, eating the turbo. I am calling Tor again today about his prototype intake using a Duramax filter. I'm also turning the boost down to 18psi.

That discussion didn't solve the strange turbo sound. So, I limped home and did some digging. I found this:

Broken boost line from the Manual Boost Controller to the turbo... good thing I limped home! Today, I decided to see what the compressor looked like. I'm happy to see no pooling oil and a normal looking compressor:

So... next step is a high flow intake!

Fixed those turbo issues yesterday.

1. I realized that my ARB solenoids were right below my MBC. When I use my lockers, they spray an oil mist on release. Turns out a lot of the oil on the MBC probably came from them.
2. Ran the breather back and zip tied to the outside of the frame.

3. Replaced split line with fuel line rated to 150psi.

4. I dialed boost back to 18 for now. Graeme ("G" from Gturbo) emailed me back and confirmed that I should run a 4" piped, high flow airbox. He suggested Moonlight Fab. in Aus. They are about $1000 for just the airbox but can be shipped to the U.S.

5. I talked with Tor at Torfab again. I got on his short list to test his prototype high flow air box. The wait is about 6 weeks so, in the mean time, I'll keep my boost lower.

6. Tor informed me that Torfab offers a water to air intercooler setup. It's priced at about $1500 and is supposed to work really well. Has anyone seen or heard of this setup?

I just found this picture online... Has run Torfab's water to air intercooler?

Has your Gturbo got an IAT sensor on the cold side output? Mine doesn't have that, WTF?

What did you use to cap the fitting on the airbox outlet where the valve cover vent line ran to? Make sure it's plugged, or it will draw in unfiltered air, no bueno.

I have that intercooler sitting in my garage. Maybe I'll install it someday.

Don't think it's Torfab's though, they can be found on Ebay.

I don't have a gauge that reads IAT. I thought that was the location used for the boost gauge... (if I'm being an idiot, feel free to tell me now. I'll only embarrass myself more later)

Wow, I didn't know you could get something like that on ebay. Do you have any more information on what you have? (Is it a full kit with intercooler, radiator, pump and wiring?) Thanks for the heads up!

That could be a boost sensor or an IAT sensor I guess, either way my Grunter Extreme doesn't have the bung for anything, same as stock. Very interesting.

The kit comes with a radiator and pump, though I've sourced different ones as well as upgraded hose and fittings. Bought a rad from a friend of mine who upgraded the one in his mustang and replaced the pump with a Bosch cobra.

Wow, @Douglas S

I googled and found some kits on ebay for about $850 but I was concerned about quality. Would you mind sharing information on which kit you have and what parts you upgraded? (Looks like pump for sure but I'm curious about your hose and fittings upgrades). Also, if you don't mind sharing, what did you pay for everything? Feel free to PM, if you prefer.

Thanks for the good information!

I wondered what 37s would look like... Grabbed a military 37 MTR off my buddy's Cherokee Chief.

Looks like it will clear pretty well. Here's the worst case at ride height... over an inch to spare. I'd have to see how it looks with the suspension compressed though...

Wow, those really fill out the wheelwells, lol!

I know... it makes my 35 look tiny! Seeing a 37 on my rig may have ruined me... I want them now! (after an intake, intercooler, suspension , rear bumper...)
