Still need this measurement? I have that radio in my storage unit that I'm visiting today.
That would be amazing! Height/width of the cassette deck (both at the 'outside' of the trim and the inside of the trim right before it opens to the inside) would be great.

Here's a cool new product that was a quick design/test/iterate over the past day or so - an integrated USB charger replacement for the 2nd-row audio control console! It features a swiveling inner body to allow you to swing it up to plug devices in, and then rotate it downward to protect the connectors from getting smacked by kids/dogs/cargo/etc. I think it's a pretty slick solution! You can go grab one over on The Artisan Garage now!

First, some CAD renders. This is a direct drop-in for that rear audio control panel - simply remove that panel, and reinstall this one in it's place. There's a 12V outlet in the center console that the 12V wires are super accessible to tap into to provide power to this.

The installed photos below are from Revision 1 - it had a two-piece design for the swiveling portion, but the Revision 2 version that I'm producing & selling is a one-piece swiveling body (shown above), just as FYI.

I think this is great solution to power kids devices/etc in the second row for long trips!

New product!

@ClassyJalopy has been looking for a solution for all-weather floor mats blocking the rear heater vents. Toyota BURIED the side vents under the seat rails for the front seats, and it's made even worse if you have any sort of floor mat in the second row.

He reached out to me about it & was kind enough to send over the portion of the ducting that I needed to design my parts around.

It took a few a few iterations to get the fit & form perfect, but here we are! You can grab as set here at The Artisan Garage today.

There's two versions: one where the outlets rise up 1" (perfect for factory floor mats or the standard "low profile" all weather mats pictured), and one where the outlets rise up 1.5" (perfect for the Weathertech mats with really tall sides). Neither version interferes with seat movement at all - pictures below are taken with the seats in a 'normal' (most of the way back) position.

Here's the passanger side:

As always, printed out of ASA so they'll have no issues standing up to the heat from the heater core. Go grab some today!

I made a separate post about these, but also wanted to drop them here as well so it's all in one place!

Ever since I started wheeling, I've been thinking about where I wanted to stash a fire extinguisher. My very first trip out (Cruisers in the Rocks IV in October 2024), we passed the burnt-out husk of a side-by-side that had caught fire on the trail - I realized then that I needed to keep an extinguisher in the truck, and that I needed to keep it somewhere with quick access.
A 2.5lb extinguisher only has ~10 seconds worth of spray time, so you need to be able to react fast to put something out before it's too late.

After some thought, the front of the seats seemed like an idea position - very quick to access, but if done correctly, entirely unobtrusive & out of the way. The same system could be used to mount other things (radios, water bottle holders, etc) as well if designed properly. After a quick search, I saw that others had done this to an extent, but not in the way that I really wanted.

Enter the Lumberjack Engineering seat front accessory mount system for the 1998-2007 Landcruiser/LX470:

20251109_133643.webp

It utilizes a pair of engineered brackets printed from glass-fiber reinforced ASA, and a CNC-cut 12 gauge steel panel. The panel has an array of 1/4" slots on its face, allowing a wide range of things to be mounted onto the front of it - like a 2.5lb fire extinguisher:

20251028_163255.webp

The brackets attach to the front of the seat rails & "lock-in" around the inverted "U" shape the rails make, and get retained with a M5 shoulder bolt. The brackets have M6 locknuts inserted from the backside, and the panel is attached via 4x low-profile M6 socket head cap screws.

20251109_120820.webp

Below is my driving position - my legs are nowhere near the extinguisher, and it's entirely unnoticeable. I had multiple people sit in my truck a couple weeks ago at COTR V, and everyone said the exact same thing - no interference to the person in the seat. I have seat jackers installed on my driver's seat, but testing it on the passenger side yielded the exact same thing. That's right - you can put it on either side of the truck! (or get two)

20251028_163228.webp

There's also no interference to the seat itself - you can still move the seat front up/down and move the entire seat forward/back etc without any issues. Because the brackets attach to the front of the moving portion of the rails, the panel (and anything attached to it) moves forward/backward with you - so whatever you've got mounted up is always in the perfect position.

These are available over at The Artisan Garage now - the kit includes the stainless hardware required to mount it to the vehicle. Additional hardware (1/4" or M6) to mount accessories to the panel is not included, but that's all easy to get just about anywhere. The panel is unfinished 12 gauge steel in order to keep costs down, so a quick wipe down with a degreaser & coat of paint wouldn't hurt.

@MongooseGA is the one who is doing the CNC plasma cutting for the panels, and he's also packaging everything up there in Georgia and shipping them out to folks. It's been a blast working with him on products for TAG, and I can't wait as he brings more vendors to the site.

I keep a PurpleK extinguisher up here and an ABC in the back, but everyone should do their own research.
I will say that from the light research I've done, the element extinguishers aren't nearly as effective as these "old-school" canister extinguishers, so there's that to keep in mind.

I also did a "quick" video on the install process - it'll legitimately take you three minutes to install, but I always get asked for a video so here it is in all of its glory, haha:

Cool stuff you're making ;)
I'd love to see; A replacement for the factory night view camera & rain sensor windshield mount. Is this something feasible, that could be made of plastic?
It's the silver metal bracket attached to windshield by manufacture. Here's pictures with silver metal bracket, somewhat hidden behind camera & rain sensor mounted on it:

Right now I think I'm planning on sticking with this charger - the port on the left is Quick Charge 3.0, and the USB-C in the middle is PD3.0 - so plenty of charging speed available I'd think!

I bet I could! I'd just need an example of one in my hands to design from. Best solution maybe be a combo of a metal plate (plasma or laser cut) for strength, and some printed pieces attached to the plate to get the required geometry without requiring super specialized tooling. What's the driving factor behind the ask? Are they just silly expensive or totally unavailable?

Thanks! I think it's pretty snazzy. I've sold a couple thus far.

Currently, only two choice.
1) Buy $1,500 windshield from Lexus, bracket is attached to it.
2) Safelite aftermarket ~$500 windshield (not including install), has bracket attached to it. But glass not available in bronze, nor does it have titanium screen.

I need and have request for the brackets. With it, we could then buy any windshield and attach to it.

I do not have, one can ship you.

Perhaps I could get a clay modeling. Taken from one still mounted on windshield. Would that work?

Demand would likely be limited, so may not be worth your time?

Sorry @LJE - I totally missed that! I must be blind. Great work!

Hmmm, a clay impression might be doable, but I definitely wouldn't be able to verify that it'd work for certain until someone tried it. Certainly willing to try though!

Volume is rarely* ever a consideration for me - I'm in this to help the cruiser community, and this one definitely seems like a worthy cause.

*occansionally I get a request for a big project (20 hours+ of design work, multiple prototypes, etc) that I feel like wouldn't be worth it due to the idea/request being super particular/would be expensive in 'production'/etc that I have to decline, but the majority of the time I'm always interested in helping out!

Cool!. If I get a chance to scrape old bracket off a windshield or get a viable clay model. I'll get back to.

When does a RAM phone mount stop being a RAM phone mount, and become something else entirely? Haha.

Decided I wanted a wireless charger on my RAM X-grip phone mount that I pair with one of my Wedgie adaptors in my LX - quick little design, and here we are! Fingerloops, wireless charging, and a microphone mount - the fanciest RAM phone mount around!

Any interest in these wireless charger adaptors?

YES! I love my inductive chargers and need two for my truck (work & personal phones) as well as two for my work vehicle!

PM once I get settled from moving! #$%$#%#^#$^@#!!!!!
