congrats on the new rig, Ken, can't wait to see it.

if my scoring is correct, this thread has resulted in at least 3 new TLCA members and at least 1 new Lexus owner now.  :bounce:

How about the rest of you lurkers, where do you stand? what a great reason to join the TLCA.

More Lexus owners should join the growing number of members. I for one welcome them! My 2000 UZJ100 is a carbon copy of the Lexus, minus some additional fluff I didn't wanna pay for!

I'm wondering what Toyota would think about us if we elected to NOT include one of their succesful vehicles from our membership ranks?

Jeez, who pissed in this guy's Wheaties?

I've been a TLCA member for the better part of a decade, I was part of the team that took Toyota Trails from B/W to color publishing, and while this may not be my favorite cover, I don't have *ANY* problem with an LX470 on the cover, a twist in Toyota's marketing approach to the US market doesn't make this "Lexus" any less of a Land Cruiser than a Brazilian Bandeirante. The article by Grogan was very interesting, the photos inside cool, the tech content as good as always, and if I'm allowed to give a compliment, the current Toyota Trails editorial team, including Todd Kaderabek as Editor and Chris Hatfield in Advertising, have done a KILLER job with the magazine, not only picking up where the previous staff left it but taking it up a notch as well.

Monster45, there is a serious war going on, we are in a controversial election year, it's the worst hurricane season in a decade and one of the Olsen twins isn't eating as much as the other one, don't you have anything better to worry about than TT's cover shot?

Cheers!

I remember when 60's and 62's were considered soccer mom trucks and then this guy from Venezuela change the thought process, (hint "circle of the wagons") any one know what happended to the guy in Alaska who ran a sprung over 60 with 35's ??? Jack?

Then came the 80's they couldn't possibly be trail rigs...they had sun roofs and leather. But of course some crazy guy painted one yellow and the rest is history.

So naturally LX470's cant possibly be trial worthy....or can they?

<popcorn>

Wow, what an adventure that was reading through all these posts here and elsewhere and then that guy's site....

I hesitate to respond, and I hate to keep this kind of stuff going, but I just have to. I love the Toyota Trails publication and the Toyota Land Cruiser extended community. And I know the guys/gals that work on it work their asses off to get me my precious mag. So I applaud all the hard work--my hat's off to all those working on it!

I know that we are all different and are all free to voice our opinions, so here's mine: As to Frank and the Lexus...man, what an idiot! I'm sorry, I don't agree with that jack-ass one bit. Look at his fawking Cruiser! Pretty much the only thing Cruiser about it is the body. Now, I'm not a Cruiser purist, but I prefer my Cruiser to be as much Toyota as possible, but I don't care what the fawk else anyone else has under their hood or frame or wherever else, but to be so adamant as to try and call people to arms (so-to-speak) against TLCA and the "suits" runnin' it because there is a Lexus on the cover and somebody wrote an article or two about it, is silly in itself. And then to be building a monster 45 out of a Chevy truck and calling it a Cruiser and a Lexus not a cruiser, is just plain fawking ludacrous. That fawking Lexus is like 500% more Cruiser than that fawking monster 45. What the hell is this guy thinking? I personally would love to be wheelin' that Lexus. I guarantee it would out-wheel my 60...but maybe my 60 is not a "real" Land Cruiser either...?

And that comment about regretting that Land Cruisers were made in Japan...holy fxxxing s***. Now, I love America as much as the next guy, and I am thankful to live in this great, free land, but that statement there is going a bit too far. It's Americans like you that give the rest of us Americans a bad rep...thinking that America and Americans are so much better than everyone and everthing else--just because you're an American. Ya the U.S. happens to be a very big player in world powers, but we can't let that go to our heads. We are not better than other people just because we are Americans. You arrogant, pompus, racist piece of s***...fxxx off. There are decent people all around the world, and there are douchebags all around the world (like you). I don't get it. If you're so proud of America and American Engineering, then why the fxxx do you have a Cruiser? Oh wait, that's right, your Cruiser is like 99% Chevy... So how 'bout a BMW or Mercedes? If you had one of those, would your only regret be that they were made in Germany? I personally am a proponent of diversity in everything around us--that's how advancements are discovered and brought to life. You're a fxxxing doctor for s***s sake. You think Americans came up with all the s*** you use? Or maybe your only regret there is that those things invented and discovered elsewhere, were not discovered and invented in the US.

And WTF, did ARB do? I don't even get WTF he was trying to say there...? ARB has some GREAT aftermarket products for Land Cruisers. I'm glad to see their ads in Toyota Trails.

Anyway, I don't care who knows this guy and thinks he might be a great guy, but anybody that believes in what this guy does, can go drive whatever it is they drive right off a 400 fxxxing foot cliff. You and that Vintage scumbag.

I agree with those before who've said that the TLCA doesn't need this guy. I'll take the Lexus on the cover--or anywhere else in the mag--and ads from ARB over that guy ALL FxxxING DAY LONG.

He's serious? You gotta be kidding!

I thought he was just trying to be funny....

Do I need to sell my LX-450?

Shesh.....I didn't even get to install the Slee X-fer case skid plate or the SS brake lines :(

Oh well, I guess they were made for a Cruiser and wouldn't work on a Lexus anyway. LOL!

I wonder how those OME springs managed to fit??

maybe it's the fact that ARB is an australian company??? not american

I am glad I was on the road when this all started. I would be full of popcorn by now!

I guess I am one of the advertisers you mention. I know you think it sucks that I advertise and support TLCA and, god forbid, work on Lexi

Goodby Frank. Never thought much of you site and now I think even less of you.

This has got to be, by far, the most entertaining thread in this section of IH8MUD ever!

Todd, Nolan and all the others at TLCA and TT - Just keep up the excellent work and never, never stop thinking outside the box!

It's kinda funny what #1 is on the LC commandments

It's interesting that he dropped this bomb and hasn't been back. He last logged in on the 16th at 1:34pm so he hasn't seen anything since post #7. He has this same thing on his site. He must be deleting posts off of his site he doesn't like. I doubt he is getting the reaction he expected.

This thread hs been entertaining, but it also shows the strong support for Todd, Tony and the rest of the hard workers at the TLCA. If nothing else, the TLCA should take this as a job well done that this many members are standing up and voicing their opinion and support.

Seriously, this has meant a lot to me. It really is your magazine, and as such I care what you think of it. Thanks.

anyone notice the Lexus on the cover of Trails? :flipoff2:

Maybe we should change the name to the Toyota and Lexus Cruiser Assoc. They are all cruisers!

I am just kidding!

Actually, I'm slightly embarassed that Americans need a Lexus branding. Is it because we can't tell quality until someone tells us it is, or are we gullible enough to buy the same thing for a higher price because of a marketing campaign or a trophy nameplate?

It's kind of the opposite with used vehicles. I looked at a lot of 97's. On average the LX450s were about $2K cheaper than a similar equipped 80. On the average, the 97 80 anniversary series was running about $15-$18K around 100K miles w/o lockers. The LX450 with Lockers was running about $13-$16K. This was after only evaluating about 30 veihicles over a 3 week period.

After reading this very long dragged out thread, started by a very passionate but "foot-in-mouth" landcruiser arse, I have decided to join the TLCA today! I have nothing against Lexus, I think they are super nice, however, I wouldn't spend the added $ for purchase or repairs. I'm just upset I didn't join sooner to have a copy of the latest edition with Christo's Lexus and article. Is there any way I can get a copy?

I'm sure if you e-mail them with your request, they will include it with your membership package.

new member practice says you get an issue with your new membership pack....my guess is, it will be this most current issue...
