Recently lost our Blue Dobe to a heart condition. He was our first dog and when my daughter was born became her best friend within days. She is always asking where he is and everytime I try to tell her I just can't do it.
Below is a pic of the nighttime routine.

No way I can get another Doberman, we all like the GSD and are looking for a reputable breeder on the East Coast. I trust the eyes and ears of others rather than trying to pick a website that I like and then spending every weekend driving to these different breeders that I have found from online searching.

Let me know if any of you guys have had any experience with anyone, good or bad. Not looking for a show or breeding dog, just good genes, temperment, ect. a pet that she can grow with.

If you want an excellent pet the stay with GSD and not GSD/MAL mix. If you want a "working" athletic bad ass, then go for the mix. I have bred, raised, and trained GSD my entire adult life. I love all dogs, but hols a special place in my heart for GSD's. I currently own (they own me) four. I'm sorry about your blue dobe.

If you want a good GSD from the east cost, I contact the monks in up state NY. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the place, but these folks have put out awesome GSD. Google it, you'll find it and good luck!
Once you go GSD.....well you know the rest : )

Just had a quick chat with Julia from New Skete, very nice and professional, they only breed German lines. However there puppies range from $3000-$3500, I can't spend that much on a puppy. I was looking at a max of around $1500.

They actually have 3 or 4 books about trainging and making your dog a companion and family memeber.

Firestopper- How much do your dogs generally go for?

Have you tried your local animal shelter? The ones around here usually have a few pure bred GSDs

No I haven't, I don't feel comfortable with pound puppies around my daughter. I'm sure that most of the dogs in pounds are fine with kids and would make great family dogs, but I could never fully trust one without raising it myself and knowing it personally.

The pups would be in the 400-700 range. Monks of New skeet is the place I was thinking of this morning.
Sorry, it takes my brain a little while to catch up,haha.
I have read the book "The Art of Raising a Puppy" written by them. Very good read. They are the only ones I know of on the east coast. I live in Arizona and have pups in NC to the East and Portland to the West. the rest live in hot a$$ Arizona. We often refer to ours as German Shedders.
The one male GSD (Porter) lives in NC. You can find a post (picture) of an action shot of him getting after his ball at seven months of age. Take a look in GSD and ball absession.
FWIW, many dogs need rescuing. I get that, but I have seen a few cases of problem animals probably due to abuse/neglect. Be very cautious when intergrating with small kids. I'm sure you can find a very nice healthy pup in your price range.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info, do the people who have yours now breed at all? Are you expecting any pups anytime soon?

Supermoto.
Don't forget about breed-specific rescue organizations. They acquire dogs from a variety of sources, abused and shelter dogs included, but often keep them for long enough to get to know them. We got our last 2 GSD's through one in Hendersonville, NC, and he knew them pretty well after having them for 3-4 months.

We have had three gsd over the years and the one we currently have came from Virginia German Shepherd Rescue....check out there page as they might have what you are looking for. As John mentioned above, the advantage of a rescue is that the foster can tell you some very specific info on the dog. We are affiliated with them as we have fostered two dogs successfully, as in, we ended up finding homes for them - it was very rewarding....

You might end up not finding a dog in rescue, but at least give it a shot as theses dogs all need a forever home, which it sounds like yours is...

try german sheppard rescue, they are a great group, alot of times they end up with dogs that weren't cut out for police work or other and make great pets,
