Okay so today was a good day. I was gonna drop the motor in but decided that I wanted to paint the engine bay with something other than aircraft gray, I only have half a can left so not much room for touch ups. That and I want to paint the heater box and brake booster with some high temp black. So I'm gonna have to wait to get the motor in. Don't rush right...

Okay first things first I'll do my lil write up on transmission mounting

Okay I had been reading all the stuff that everyone has posted about how big of a PITA rejoining the trans to the engine is. Well folks I think I either got real damn lucky or I found a better way of going about it.

I plopped the engine down in a tire but put some 2x4s inside for a little added support. and then braced the flywheel with another 2x4. This kept the back of the motor up a little higher which seemed to look good and the engine was pretty well supported without much wiggle room. Then I moved the engine crane around to the back of the motor with the trans and t-case and PTO elevated by the engine crane. This gave me lots of room to twist and turn and jimmy the trans around. I left the clutch alignment tool in until I was just about ready to slam it home. I pulled it out and kinda eyed the trans input shaft up as good as I could and then jacked the trans up to where I could hold it from the rear and slide it right in. As a matter of fact I eyed it up pretty good. It slid right in on the first try. Wooohooo.... I had two other people there to help if it got stubborn but I was able to get it in by myself which wasn't something that I had expected after reading up on here.

Smog rail

The motor that I got from Agreekboy has the smog rail partially desmogged. On the picture there are two places that I pulled electrical connections of sorts out and put the plugs from my other 2F into. Does anyone know what these holes/ports are for? I know I need to get an FSM but I had to order it so you guys are my FSM for a while.

More stuff my old motor doesn't have.

Okay not sure what this/these are but I don't think they are tied into the de smog due to them going to the water pump. The second pic kinda looks like some sort of heat sensor for maybe the heater. Not sure since my old motor doesn't have this. The bracket on the back is huge and tied into the oil filter bracket by the looks of it. This could very well me something for my heater but I wouldn't know since the PO of this pig cut the heater lines inside the drivers compartment. ??????

Those are all temp sensor senders... the one most near the firewall is the stock sensor location. I think the other two are aftermarket ones... Looking good dude. SELL the 60 for me! disk brakes for you! haha

OK, be calm. the 2 senders on the head...one goes to the dash temp gauge, one goes to the emissions "computer'...the sender on the oilcooler goes to yer oilpressure gauge, 'cause it's an oil pressure sender. Got it?

So strange, I don't have that second sender on the head of my FJ60... Thats why I assumed it was aftermarket...

Oil cooler huh, That's cool didn't have one on my other motor, that didn't run anyhow. I guess I'll leave that puppie on there. Okay what happens if I don't have the plug and wires for the sensor closest to the firewall on the piggy. The more fwd one had a wire on it on the other motor but the closest to the firewall one had the plug in it on the other motor. Hmmmmm

Doesn't matter plug the one furthest away from firewall and install temp sender in the one closest. I'd splurge 9 dollars and buy a new temp sender.

Thanks for the info Marshall. I'll get the new one the guys at the parts store here now know me by name it took them long enough

engine in it's home

Alright guys I got the motor in and have it most of the way plumbed up. I have a lot of the under carriage re connected. Am waiting on a few things. It's pretty hard to get things for the piggy on Labor day. But I got a few things done. Was hoping I could get some up close and personally pics of the some early 2F carbs like mine so I can remember how it all goes back together. Here are some pics of mine. I'm inching toward the running piggy.

So I've been looking more and more into SEM and I think it's a real option as an alternative to just painting the pig. I would like to go with the original green/whiteish paint job with the SEM product. Any dislikes from those that have used this product or a retail sprayed on product?

That carb looks like hell. You need to send a pic to JimC just for a good laugh.
I don't think that is an early 2f carb. Looks like a 71 or 72 carb off a f motor.

It's missing the choke breaker. I'm pretty sure your gonna need that.

That spring around the carb is classic.

All that said I bet it will run.

Hey Anest how much do you think it would cost to send me the carb and power stearing pump? Let me know. I think that in time I want to send the carb I have to JimC. I just want it to run Haven't had time though.
