Alright guys I'm going to start my build thread it's going to be a slow process but I intend on working on it whenever I have free time from work. (don't have much)

It's a 1971 FJ55 with a 1976 FJ40 2F. It arrived from Tucson on May 14, 08 sense then I have taken the Oil pan down and the oil pump off due to the pressure relief valve being jammed. Oil pump on the way. Also I have already replaced the break lines to the front end. (gone) The PO had discs but took them off and put them on his 74. Alright enough with the computer back to the garage.

Lil john, I hope so though with the luck that I have I doubt it but hey that's the learning experiance. Right?

Alright is it common for the tailgate not to open. The PO said that it used to open. Window works great right now. On a good note the inside of the tailgate is wood and held on by screws didn't think this was common but will make fixing the tailgate easier.

 on your :pig: purchase!
Take care of the small things first & try & keep it driveable. You tear too much down at once & you may lose focus on your build. Also don't tear into something w/o doing research on what the final product may look or drive like. :hhmm: That last one hit too close to home  Lookin forward to progress pics ;p

LC_hamma, Thanks for the reminders. Yeah I'm just trying to get it drivable right now. Once I get the oil pump taken care of and get a friend to help bleed the new break lines I'll keep it simple for now. yeah I want to be able to drive it and wheel it while I work on it. That and I don't have the time to get crazy like you. How's the Pigalanche going anyhow.?

Thanks for asking. I'll have some updates this weekend on the engine bay area. Got some plumbing & :wrench:ing to do. Little bit of fabbin goin on too :D Keep on :pig:ing!

Making the pig road ready

Well I've decided to take LC_hamma's advice. I'm not planning on getting too hamma crazy all at once. So I know what I need to get to make the big run. Parts are in the mail. But I decided this morning that driving on a milk crate might get me a ticket so I got the drivers side bucket seat mounted. buckets are nice but I'd rather have a bench seat. Maybe one that can tilt back without too much fab. I'd like to keep that area of the floor as original as possible since the rust damage is minimal. shout out some ideas on which seats out there fit. Keep building.

Roof Corner

Alright I posted this in the paint and body section but wanted to add it to my build thread. That and who knows Pigs better than you guys.

Okay I've been searching for a while and my eyes are beginning to roll back in my head. I'm trying to find out what some others have done to repair their roof rust damage. I only have one spot that is going to cause problems but would like to keep the roof since it's only got this one bad spot. I haven't taken down the headliner yet so I don't know how deep it goes but I'm assuming it goes all the way through. So the big issue is the rain gutter. I figure that I can fix the roof corner with a little luck. Ideas and pics of builds / fixes would be great.

Headliner will come down when I have time and a place to lay it all out to be cleaned.

agree totally with Chuck; keep it drivable and drive the stew out of it....... they seem to do better when they are driven regularly; kinda like mules............if you didn't work em they got "sour" and were a darn handfull to get any use out of em;

:hhmm: A compound curve patch that small wont' be too bad. How bout that rusted line to the left of the hole  Wire wheel the whole area & see how much rust comes out. Maybe just a few spot welds & light filler there. Gotta drop the headliner for the back part :frown: The headliner is tucked under all the window weatherstripping, so you know what's next :bang: I'm glad I didn't try & reinstall mine........

 Since the hole is in the corner, I bet you can just pull it back far enough to where you may not need to mess w/ the window w/s. Stick a vacuum nose up there & suck out the rest of the fallen particles in the other area that needs work........

LC_hamma yeah I'll give that a try this weekend. At some point I would like to pull the headliner down but I don't want to have to mess with the window seals since they are actually in great shape. Maybe in the future.

Well not much to report. I have applied some evapo rust to the one corner of the roof and have torn the engine apart. You can see more about that in my thread on 40-55 tech. So much fun.

Well I made the decision today to pull the motor out and do the fix to the Crank with the engine on a stand rather than from under the ole' piggy. I figure that pulling the engine and doing the work outside the truck is the lesser of two evils. Pulling the trans, transfer case, and PTO and then all the linkage to the trans would be the larger job. I can get the engine out with the Clutch flywheel housing without too much work. I intend on borrowing a shop crane from my neighbors friend, and if that falls through I can buy one at the local Harbor Freight for $100. They are on sale. If that's not a knock on the door I don't know what is.

I have a dose of evapo rust working on the cancer on the rear roof. Not sure if anyone has had any luck with the evapo rust product or not, but I got the quart for $8 so I thought I'd give it a shot. I have a question on the roof. There is a space between the cancer and the roof kind of an air pocket. Is this gonna be bad? I am still considering cutting this portion of roof and attempting a repair and re weld back into place but I thought I'd see if I could salvage the panel before I go cutting. I have yet to pull down the headliner in that area due to all the parts from the engine being in the cargo area. That and I haven't fixed the tail gate. It no open. All in due time I guess.

Are you gana pull the whole drive train out as one assembly? Better get a buddy to come over... It really simplifies it to take the fenders off too. Good luck. If you were closer I'd come help, but wtih $4.00 gas, I don't go anywhere cept the office.

Zulu, Hey i intend on leaving the tranny and everything in the truck. I am however planning on pulling the Clutch flywheel housing so I can check the clutch better and possibly replace since it will be out. I'd rather leave the rest of the drive train in. Being as it's a 3 on the tree there's alot of linkage that I know nothing about and the PTO. Due to work though it will probably be after I come back from vacation before I get to pull the engine. But on a good note when I get back I will also have someone to help me. Thanks guys I intend on getting a digital camera for Fathers day that way I can get more pictures. I need to take some of the main and rod bearings so you guys can help me decide if my harmonic balancer is bad.

Thanks Zach

On vacation but intend on pulling the motor when I get back. This week is all about fishing and kids and golf.

Home at last

Hey Well I'm back off of my 10 day vaca from work. It was a much needed rest. I wanted to start prepping the motor to come out of the LC today but after driving for 15hrs straight through from Sterling Kansas to Victoria Texas (roughly 850 miles) I'm just gonna be a bumb today since I'd probably hurt myself if I tried to mess with it on no sleep for the past 22hrs. Maybe tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted. I should have a digi cam some time soon. Asked for one for fathers day. hmmm lets see if the wife comes through.

what no yawn smiley. Darn....
