Well when I got home from work today I started getting the engine ready to come out. You know disconnecting everything. You would not believe some of the things that were either loose or hand tight.
-Exhaust bolts
-Lower Tranny bolts
-Right engine mount bolt
-Battery Negative body ground
These are just to name a few. Scary huh Good thing I'm taking everything apart. Shoot.

I do have a question to go along with this. I took the nuts off of the rear engine mounts.
Do the Bolts come out or do they just lift off when pulling the engine. Also The fork for the shifter is there a good way to disconnect this I'm not sure was looking at it but there's not a whole lot of room Pictures would be great if anyone has them. If there is anything funny that is out of the norm for pulling an engine on these LCs let me know. I got everything that was visible from the engine compartment.

Thanks
Z

<Well I made the decision today to pull the motor out and do the fix to the Crank>

<Good thing I'm taking everything apart>

 I guess I missed where you diagnosed there's a major engine problem. Thought I tole you to keep it driveable  Nowwww you did it - time for the bob/ chop/ link job :bounce2: You KNOW you wanna supa flexy & smooth ride :grinpimp: Who wants a boring resto :pig: anyway ;p

Howdy! One old trick I learned years ago makes this job a lot easier. I take a couple of pieces of chain and loop them over the frame and around the axle. I run a couple of long bolts thru the chain and tighten them down to make a snug loop. This way when you lift the 800 pound engine, or 1200 pounds if you leave the gearboxes attached, the body of the rig does not raise up by a foot or so. John

LC_Hamma, If you look at my Thread I started about the "Oh SH*T engine question" you'll see that there was more to the problem that I was having with just changing the Oil pump out. And with this little hang up I figure that this DD build has just turned into and Oh SH*T this should be interesting build. But I do agree with you that the old resto is moving out the window and I'm looking more into creating my own little piggy. (que evil laugh. bruhahahahahaha.)

Anyone have answers to the questions asked?

The drivetrain will just lift off after you take the bolts outta the top of the bellhousing mounts. There's a fixed stub coming off the bottom of the mounts as you can see so don't try & pound it upward w/ a drift. Wouldn't have a clue about the 3 spd. boat anchor tranny :D Good to hear you're thinkin about buildin up yer :pig: Let the NEW  flow man & show us yer creative fabwork :bounce:

Click on the link, tons of pics, hope it helps. Hit Trollholes Big Gay 2f build in 40 tech. Never mind the title, a great source for info.. Did you take the nuts or the bolts off of the motor mounts? If the nuts then stick um back on there cause you will need them to resist torque when you take the bolts off (on top of the mount). The bolt sticking out the bottom is not part of the bolt on the top. I assume you were thinking of the clutch fork when you said shift linkage, right? If so then all you have to do is pull the clutch hydro slave unit. No need to pull the fork till later but that is easy. Wack the stickin out end with a hammer to knock of its ball. Pull on it to disconnect the throw out. Not sure if you can even get it out of there untill the tranny shaft is out of the way. Unusual? hmmm, you have to angle the motor a bit when trying to clear the radiator support, those motor mount brackets, no need to lift the motor over the radiator support. Oh a good one! Before disconnecting the tranny from the bellhousing lift your drivetrain a 1/4 inch, arrange supports so that the tranny and transfer case are supported (WELL) slighty higher than stock. That will make it easier to put it all back together. so where you at in Texas Z?

Great thanks for all the answers guys. Not gonna be able to get it out till the weekend so I will have time to read the Thread link. RS I am in Victoria TX. Got a couple of members in San Antonio but I think that's the closest.

Hes in Longview with me. He got this parts rig for a song and would probably be glad to get rid of some stuff off it. its a 74' I think. Longview is defineatly a hike from Victoria but may be worth it for a cheap tranny/t-case

Zulu, I PMed him haven't heard anything back as of yet but it's only been a couple hours. Yeah would be nice to get all that linkage for the 3 on the tree out of there. Too damn many moving parts.

Zulu, Not to worry about the hike I know a guy that is here and makes trips to Tyler from time to time and he said that he'd have no problem picking it up for me and bringing it back. Which is nice since I've put a roof over his head and all. lol

PTO

Now this Pig has the drive train driven PTO for the winch if I go to the 4 speed / t-case will I still be able to have my PTO winch?

Tranny

Well went out in the garage today and started to pull the tranny out of the LC decided that I wanted to pull it from under instead of with the engine not sure why just seemed like a good idea. The only thing that we had issues with was the right rear engine mount. The top bolt in the rubber bushing is jammed so I decided to take the bolts out of the side of the bell housing and just leave all the linkages hooked up. (easy fix.) Can mess with the bushings and that stuff when the engine is out of the way. The other problem spot was the E-brake drum. Didn't know how to disconnect the cable at the drum so I decided to disconnect it from the linkage on the fire wall. This was a task in itself. Ended up cutting the head of f the pin and spreading the linkage 90. Will have pictures soon. Got a digital cam for fathers day. May have to replace this 90 think I broke it. Oh well. Sh*t happens.
All in all a few hours of screwing around in the garage and the tranny/t-case/PTO is out and on the ground next to the pig.

Engine comes out some time this week depending on work. I am buying an engine crane on Tuesday. After the build is over I will likely sell it but I'm not really in the mood to rent one for a day and then again when I'm done with the engine due to only having a corolla and it would be damn hard to get that crane on or in my corolla. Damn right.

Hey Binks you got some kinda manual to look at for reference? There's a very small c-clip that holds the pk. brake cable inside the assy. on the backing plate. May be hard to see w/ all that gunk caked inside there but you gotta disassemble it. More pics & less chat :bounce2: :pig:

Pics coming soon digi cam was purchase for fathers day and should be here shortly. I also need to take the silver plunge so that I can post more pics cause I'm sure that I'll fill up the free allowance rather quickly once I get the camera. I did however find out that the problem with the crank is because the PO must have driven the LC A LOT farther than once explained which cause the wear on the bearing. that will likely be the first pic I put up once I get the camera.

Oh I've decided to buy a cherry picker. Got a good deal on a fold able one at harbor freight for $99. I figure I'll use it and once I'm done either sell it or if I grow attached to it just keep it in the garage sure I can use it for other things later.

PICS COMING SOON.

Good news. Camera showed up today and I intend on getting the engine out this weekend. So pictures will be taken lots of them. I'm thinking that the silver membership will be coming soon as well. Money means more pictures. Oh yeah bought a engine crane on Tuesday and it is going to be put to good use very soon. That's the only update I have. Until Saturday.

Today was the day.

It was an early Saturday morning in South Texas, The engine was screaming to come out. So we went out in the garage and pulled a few things off the top like the air box and alternator just so they'd be out of the way then I decided where to put my anchor points to lift that heave thing out. Spent some time on the phone with Zulu for a few questions that needed to be answered about where to put the rear hoist point. Anyhow the engine came out and the fun began. OH make sure to pull the pressure plate, clutch and flywheel before trying to get those 4 pesky bolts on the flywheel side of the bell housing this will shave your knuckles a lot of pain and anguish. :bang:

Had to wrestle with the engine stand a little to get it lined up and mounted to the engine. Then we used the engine crane to get the engine stand up the 2 inch curb into the garage. Now the engine rests nicely in the garage. I was going to start to tear the engine down tomorrow but looks like I'll be heading up toward Tyler Tx for a job tomorrow. Maybe I'll be able to grab a beer with Zulu.
