Shocks punch holes

Hey on both of my inner fenders there are holes from the tops of the shocks. I need some opinions on what I should do to either prevent this or whatever other ideas. I was looking at cutting holes out of the fenders so the shocks could travel without causing more damage. I'm by no means a suspension guy.

Head scratchers

Here are a couple of those beginner LC owner head scratchers. You should be able to read the captions on the pictures. Thanks guys

I never bothered taking out the headlights, just the grill and upper crossmember to install an engine....gave me plenty of room without having to lift it so high. Also, the crank type load leveler that goes between the hoist and the engine is a big help when stabbing it back in...
Oh, be warned, mating the engine to the transmission is about the hardest job you can do on a LandCruiser.

That bracket is where the old smog control Vacuum Switching Valve used to mount (the black box with all the vacuum hoses running to it)

I have no idea what that is on the steering shaft.

Yeah pighead it would figure that the joining of the engine and the trans would suck. Go figure...

hm

It's actually mounted right above but damn close on a L bracket. No clue. Anyone else?

Zulu, I was thinking the same thing. Smog crap on a 71. Well I do know that the PO had an accident at some point and replaced much of the front clip so the fenders may have come off of a later model not sure. I would have to email him since he doesn't frequent the Forum.

Lil'John, I could put it in reverse right now however difficult it would be to see the lever touching the switch considering the transmission is currently sitting on the ground next to the truck. Thanks though it's good to know what it is. Kinda seemed close to operations.

Z

Really? 71'? I'm not sure thats right unless the fenders are later model than 71'

Sorry I did not see all of this earlier...indeed a reverse switch.

Your inner fender has the same brackets as my 75 it appears. The 7/70 inners (kin to your 71) do not have all of that.

Yeah the PO had a fender bender with a small car and it messed up the front end and he replaced it all I guess that's what he ended up with. The fenders are straight the passenger side lower is all bondo and I intend on chipping it away and see what I'm left with. Might end up needing some patches. Only time will tell. Though it may be a while it's been too damn hot to do much lately.

Okay so I haven't had a lot of time with the ole' Oinker here lately. However I did get outside today and get it pulled out of the garage and pressure washed the engine compartment. With the intent to try and get it painted some time this week. If all goes right I should have a motor some time the third week of this month. Cross your fingers guys.

So on a more interesting note I've decided to name the pig. "2.5 TOF" Anyone know what the acronym is here?

Howdy! Duh, sounds like "two and a half tons of fun!". Am I anywhere close? Do I win a prize? John

another long to come plan

Okay so I have yet another plan to complete on the pig. Something that is a long time coming but would like to do. Make things my own. Got most of the engine bay painted today. Motor will hopefully be here some time in the near future.

Top is a little lower than the original...

I'm doing a regular BOB right now on the zebra... Havent quite figured out how to line the stripes back up once i weld it back up, but thats the least of my worries right now anyway. Cross your fingers for the engine dude. Should be soon...

You are documenting the Zebra right? I'm gonna want to see all the pictures. Hoping to sell the trailblazer and then the only vehicle I'll have is the pig. Well if I sell the Trailblazer I'll keep the motorcycle.

Sorry guys that I haven't made any real progress on 2.5T.O.F Due to recent child support and moving and a long list of other fun and exciting BS. Going to pick up my motor from Zulu's shop Sunday. Planning on making the attempt to get the motor in before Sept 1 so that I'll have more to post on my "Pig of the Month" Thread.

Alright I went to Longview and picked up my motor from Zulu yesterday it is now in the garage right in front of the pig. I plan on pulling fuel tank this week and cleaning it out and make sure that it's not all gunked up, also need to pull the rest of the smog stuff of this newish motor, amongst other things that need to be done while the motor is still on the ground. I hope to have this monster running before the middle of September. Now if someone would buy my trailblazer??? I'll take some pictures in the next day or two.

Something to report

Okay so I decided to see what Aircraft Grey would look like in the engine bay of the Pig a couple days ago. I like it haven't decided if I'm gonna paint anything over it. However I probably should since I only have about half a can left. Kinda hard to paint around everything. Still have the drivers side taped off.
