Easiest way to "break-in" to an 80? Working on a friend of mines `94 and the keys got locked in it. He's out of town and I don't need the down time. Help please.

AAA will send out someone that can get in.

If you need to get in without a call then almost all US 80s have sliding rear windows. Those are supposed to be relatively easy to get in. The latches are plastic. I have never had to get in through those so I don't know the specifics.

Last summer, I was thinking about buying a used car and took it home to do an inspection in my garage. I locked the key in it :duh: and had to call AAA. The guy came by about 10 minutes later and within 5 minutes he was in the car though he did set off the alarm in the process.

He used a wedge covered in duct tape. The wedge was about 8" long and about 4" wide. He wedged it into the top of the window frame between the body and the window frame using only hand pressure. He just needed a little room at the top of the door to send in his fishing tool which was basically a thin stick with a knob on the end. He used that 'stick' to press the door unlock button on the passenger side.

Good Luck!

I had to break into mine not to long ago. I did it through the sliding windows with a pencil and a wire hanger in about two minutes. Use your imagination

The original posters question could quite simply have read:

"I saw this sweet LX with all the goodies I want. I want to break into the car without making a mess, can you guys help me?"

If my truck is gone in the morning I'm blaming you:flipoff2:

:meh:

Once someone's made the decision to break into my rig, I'd just as soon they leave me with as little damage as possible.

Basically: "Hey bad guy, please go in through one of the sliding rear windows, or if you must, break one of the small second row windows (cheapest and easiest to replace). KTHXBYE!:)"

;p :D

I sometimes hide a key on top of the coil spring perch for the front axle, that's only when I go running, ATV'ng or Mountain Biking... Where I am far from my vehicle for at least an hour or two at a time. As for a permanent spare key hidden on the rig I don't have one, I like how easy the sliding rear window is though and a pencil/coat hanger is more subtly hidden than something important like a key...

i usually just hit quick reply which of course eliminates the emoticons.
familiar with the other thread.

Not me!

Not worried about my car getting stolen...
Just got this system installed: www.ravelco.com

Smash 'n Grab - could happen to any LC.
Towed away? Could happen to any LC

Driven away in less than say 4 hours of fumbling and guessing b4 the a##hole shorted something out? ... not likely at all.

( b4 you flame me - no, I don't work for them & go to the link above and read it :flipoff2: ).
