Location
Below the Mackinac bridge
I had to use my hidden key yesterday, I'm pretty happy with the location. It's in the bottom of the driver's outside mirror, taped to the plastic cover. We called this the "doghouse cover" when we built mirrors. It's clean, easy to open, and unlikely to be found by a thief (unless he's on mud).

And if anyone gets any ideas, I'll leave my garage unlocked. I'll even fill the tank! :D

I had my alarm set, and it went off. I turned the ignition off and on a couple times, and it stopped, is there a better way to get in without setting off the alarm?

Since the first time I locked myself out of a vehicle, I've always kept a spare in my wallet. I has saved my butt a few times!!

Wait a minute im confused.... where is that? The bottom of the mirror has a secret compartment i've never noticed?

I usually just zip tie mine to the frame underneath the rig.

I've always electrical-taped mine to a wire bundle I could reach. Hard to find if you don't know it's in there. I left the end of tape folded over to help unwind. But that always got messy, this is much nicer. It's a black, plastic cover under the hinge of the outside mirror. Other cars have these, not always enough room for a key.

I wrap mine in a small rag and put in inside one of the wheel center caps.

I went to the local triple A office and had them cut one into a credit card...FREE.
it's in the wallet.

Actually worked on another Toyota once even.

I have two keys hidden just encase one is lost.
The first one is taped to the inside of the fuel door, other is under the hood.
Have not needed them,yet.

Can you guys give me your address too? ;)

Bring a flat-top, I've got several vehicles I'd like to be rid of.

just thinking here.....how are you going to get into the engine compartment or the fuel door if you loose your keys???? Break a window to get your key? I would want something that I can access if I lock my keys in teh car. I like the wheel cover idea and the mirror is cool tool

If your doors are locked, how do you intent to get to either one of those spots?

Just curious.

Yup,

Keep one zip tied underneath too. Need to have it accessible to the wifey without going to too much trouble.

Had my center caps stolen so many times....I'd be hesitant to put one there.

now I know why Landtank wants my caps:idea:

I lose my caps too often to try it.

Does she carry a knife? Those zip-ties are pretty tough, I'm sure my wife would have choice words for me. Maybe she'd start carrying the Leatherman Micra I gave her years ago. I always preferred to make the key on my wife's car somewhat inconvenient, otherwise she tended to grab it when she didn't have time to hunt for her regular keys.

HAY, I know where you live!!!

For a small fee, I will give you a google map where the 80 is parked;)
