Good point, But I do not run my Aux lights, Etc. unless I am out wheeling. I find it annoying when they come on with the high beams. But that is just my .02. Either way he has a good idea and for those out there that can't do wiring or don't want to...This is an easy install. I will be installing the 1st production harness tomorrow and will have a full report on the install here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/183953-white-ghost-gets-second-chance.html

Heres my thought, send your harness out controlling the positive circuit, someone trying to diagnose a lighting problem in the field may not understand why the device has 12 volts but doesnt work(they probably will think both bulbs burnt out at the same time when actually the relay is not supplying ground)The positive wire (load) going to the relay should be as short as possible and conected directly to the positive battery post,no inline fuse will be needed if routed properly on this wire(1 less butt conector and no soldier required),the relay will protect the circuit out to the lights(looks like your using a 40 amp relay?).Use a small inline blade type fuse holder inside the truck before the switch(5amp) to controll the on/off of the relay.

the harness will be plenty long enough to hook the power to the battery or the alternator as i know some have dif views on this subject. and can be cut down if needed or wanted.

if someone ask for a switched power it is a very easy and fast change as only 2 wires would need to be moved on the relay.

the aux harness is a very user friendly peice than can be used in either configuration by simply switching a couple wires around for either switched ground or power.

Looking at your wire harness in post 53,the only way to change it into a positive switching circuit would be to cut apart the splice at the 2 red wires and crimp on a spade conector to the one going to the lights so it could be plugged onto the relay.....cut off the ground wire spade and install a ring terminal so it could be grounded...redo the switch inside the truck to have fused power instead of ground...there is no benefit to controlling the ground side on this aux. lighting application that I can see...

your making it to hard. its easy switch the ground and power wire, remove the power line that is run to the lights (no longer needed) then on the white wire or switch wire pick up a power from inside the cab (instead of a ground being intermitten its a power now) and hook it to the switch. and done.... easy.

with the way it is set up right now there is no chance that the wire from the cab to the relay will ever rub through and cause a possible electrical issue (cause even with fuses things happen) and if it does rub through all it will do is possibly turn the lights on.

second with power going straight to the lights there is the most amount of power goin to the lights with the least amount of voltage drop (cause running it through the relay will cause some slight drop even tho probally minute if that)

third you done have to pick any power up in the cab at all unless you are running a lighted switch.

last... there is no down fall what so ever if nothing else it is safer as there is only 1 power wire (alt or battery to lights) of any sort of length instead of 3 (one coming from the cab to relay for switch and one from relay to lights for light power and one from battery or alternator to relay for relay power).

i hope this helps those wondering the same things.

this harness will be going on the White ghost that randy (iaintscared1969) did a 5.3 vortec swap on for luis (meatloaf)

(all conections are shrink wrapped as i finally found the right size tube i needed)

Lookin good there. I can't wait for some field testing!

yup gotta get one or 2 more for sure made for mudders and get a write up from em.

They need to sticky stuff like this in the FAQ section to help out the noobs.

Is there a reason (cost?) you're not using relay holders? I doubt your connections would slip off, but a relay holders would make the wires that much more secure. Just wondering . . .

no no particular reason. however i can look into them.
for the headlamp harness upgrade i would like to use the holders as to be able to make em easilly accesable in case a relay should fail.

any update on this project? pm me if you can after posting

Been a while... Got here from a link. Plug and play 62 harness/light kits available yet?

My other computer crashed with all of my diagrams i had made.

The aux harnesses i can make again pretty easily, i also got some new crimpers and some better solder for the conections.

As for the headlamp harnesses that one will be a while before i duplicate it. i need to see if i cant get my files from my other hardrive if i can i will have those available.

I got the headlamp harness set up properly and when you flip on the high beams the indicator comes on (unlike some of the kits you can buy elsewhere) but they are for the 60's and 40's still havent messed with 62 yet. ive been swamped in other projects.

ill see if i cant buy something to get my hardrive form my pc to my laptop then i can try and get the 62 headlamp harness up.

Howz the harness for the 62 going? :-)

iaintscared or meatloaf ever get them installed and thoughts?

The AUX harness went with the truck for delivery but i do not know if it even was installed onto the rig, i know there were some oiling complications with the 5.3 that was installed and it may have been lost in the process.

the aux harness is easy to reproduce. the headlamp harness on the other hand not so much.

sIf you are still working on harnesses for 62's, I'd love to buy one from you.
