Honestly I'd much rather run upgraded (though I don't think any even exist that are compatible with the 3FE) injectors and convert to a direct fire DIS ignition system than bungle around with the entire fuel injection setup on an engine that most likely won't benefit from it.

uh

There's a ton of benefit to be had with full control of your fuel and timing, especially when combined with 15lbs of boost

Which is what the 3FE is really asking for.

If you're getting into a turbo installation, then I agree, but in a mostly unmodified engine, I think it'd be more of an investment of time and money than what you'd get out of it. Same as with the work involved with going to a DIS system; I just mentioned that because IMO it'd offer you more "bang for your buck" than completely redoing the fuel injection.

Will I need to replace the gasket if I take the upper plenum off?

Depends on if it comes off clean or not. If it’s original it probably won’t. It’s a cheap gasket, less then $10 on rockauto.

Does anyone know if this is the correct Part Number: 17172-61060 ?

That is not what you need. That is for the exhaust manifolds and lower plenum to cylinder head.
You want the gasket between the upper and lower plenum.
FEL-PRO MS94731 on RockAuto. $5.45.
17176-61010 Toyota, $11.50 from Toyota Parts deal if you feel like paying double for a paper gasket

I just pulled all the stuff off my 3FE as the "manual" describes now it won't start. Not a severe problem as I have a couple driving spares but I would like to get it running before I put the 12HT in there so I can use the driveline elsewhere. When you take the vacuum junk off the inner fender what do you do with the electrical connection? Are they the reason its not starting?

alright so I’ve been looking around at des oh stuff recently and today when I went to pull my alternator I went ahead and yanked the EGR pump out, does anyone know what belt is needed to run without it? Everywhere I look will not list it

eliminated everything, nothing is left.
The engine runs much better, is more responsive, starts faster.
At low revs it pushes better, even uphill it seems to have more torque.
I've just started using it so I'm checking slowly, but for now I'm very satisfied.
there is now also a lot of space.
