Let’s see those 200s camping…..

Crazy you can run the AC off that….i had no idea. I will assume that is $$$$$$$$$

Lithium batteries have been game changing. Yes, definitely some $$ up front, but cheaper than a set of 2000W inverter generators and the cost of replacing lead acid batteries every 4-years.

If I did it again, I would go with a 24 or 36v system so I could reduce the wire sizes and run the solar panels strictly in series. Right now I had to run the panels in two 600w series strings, then parallel the two strings together to keep the charge controller happy. Lots of 000 gauge wire between the batteries to various on/off switches, fuses, and bus blocks.

Here are a few from our recent trip, some winners, some losers… all allowed for good sleep so I can’t complain.

1st night out, needed a quick off Highway spot that we could arrive at late and bolt early. This little gem was a solid find in Hamilton, Alabama.

We hit up a Loves truck stop in Amarillo, TX. Day 2. Not really picture worthy but the camping area was well separated from the gas pump area so it was a little less crazy… if you could stand the wind.

Trip officially began once we crossed into New Mexico. Spent a night at the Ice Cave, pretty neat to see ice in New Mexico, camping was right against a large lava field.

Grand Canyon forest road 302 was, surprisingly, absolutely empty except for a big Elk.

We spent a few nights at Bryce, it was nice with cool temps but we prefer fewer neighbors. It is nice to be able to leave the camper and not worry about it.

Thanks to a recommendation from a fellow mudder we spent some time exploring around hole in the rock road and camped. Lots of cool stuff to heck out and lots of hellish washboards to deal with.

We had big plans for Labyrinth Canyon area but the wind won out again… we have been ran out due to wind anytime we get near Moab. We have our limits and sustained 25+mph are we beyond that.

We did, however, manage to make it one night in Moab at a designated spot. It was on the warm side but we can now say that we’ve camped Moab after several attempts.

This is more our style for Moab.

Monsoon season in Colorado just makes everything more green. Still plenty of time in the day to dry out.

And I can’t believe how few people are up here.. easily the slowest mid-July for primitive campers I’ve seen in 15 years of coming up here.

I think they are all here in Glacier National Park. Crazy crowded.

Drug the Karavan up to Coyote Flats above Bishop, CA over the past week. What a beautiful spot! And what a slog to get up to the top pulling a fully load trailer with the 200 topped with an iKamper and carrying the 6 of us. Definitely tested the rig, gears and a locker are in the near future.

Is 6 your normal crew? 2 adults and 4 kiddos?

That’s my future, currently 3 kids deep and one cooking. I’ve been looking at options.
Currently we sleep the big kids in a roof tent and adults / toddler in the i kamper on my trailer. However thinking about moving to a hard side small camper.

Outstanding, building your own fire team. Congrats! Yes sir, currently at a total of 6.

The Karavan can sleep 4, ours has the bunk bed option. However, we prefer the have the 3 orders sleep in the ikamper. If our daughter sleeps on the bunk it requires the use of an extension and limits access to the door. I do miss the smell of canvas, but the hard side make up for it.
