Threw on some gold steel wheels from an 85 SR5 pickup I bought on a wim.
The wheels actually tie into the seat fabric and tires are in better condition than the ones that were on it when I brought it home.
I actually dont mind the combo. Thinking of pin striping some gold and beige to match the interior and wheels.

I love the gold! They are so freaking rad!

Rebuilt the choke cable contraption this weekend.
Soldered the tip back on where it snapped and dripped some 3'n'1 down both ends
Works now, nice to have the choke.
Been daily driving it for a couple weeks now and love it!
My 4th gen 4runner has been just sitting patiently.

Tried to find some snow up in the LA mountains, mostly slush but the kid and dogs had a great time.
Thats what this project is all about.
A friend of mine is building his 60 right now and offered for me to tag along on some metal fabrication projects so I may have a rack and bumpers sooner than later.

A buddy of mine is building his 60 at the moment and was moving on to doing his cargo rack. Really cool of him to offer for me to tag along for the ride and show my some welding tips. Designed mine for a roof top tent in the rear and a small basket style up front. He build motorcycles for the most part but got bit by the cruiser bug.
Heres some shots of us mocking the rail mounts yesterday. Not a pro job but stoked to be actually building something from the sketch up.

PS The gold OEM wheels will be available shortly. Going with some Tacoma Steelies.

Yeah I have a bunch of various mock ups saved on my computer. Most are simpler, a few even more elaborate. If I do ever get around to painting I’m guessing it won’t be subtle.

Like the idea of retro stripes but maybe something more subtle like these maybe.

Looking good, keep up the good work and post pictures.

Well finally took the ol brick on the road yesterday. First tank of gas and shower in 15 years.
Need to finish the interior floor, get a 2" lift and new tires but it drove pretty great.
While hooking up the choke cable to the carb the choke light stopped working, need to look into that.
Oh and get a stereo hooked up. Super pumped on finally getting the cruiser on the road.
Thanks for all the tips and tricks along the way Mud.

Well done. Can't wait to get behind the wheel when my HJ60 is rebuilt.

@2mountainfish Just curious if you're happy with the wrap? I've been thinking of doing the same
So far it has held up well. It is about a year old and outside all of the time. It has endured sagebrush, grease wood bushes, and various tree branches. The biggest thing is in the surface prep. Make sure you wipe down the panel you are doing just before you apply. I used acetone, which did a good job. If your paint has clear coat flaking off, you need to sand it first with 320 grit paper. I just used a DA sander and scuffed the whole rig. If your paint is good and the surface is smooth , you can just wipe it down and apply. There is lots of vinyl out there. Don't be cheap and buy the thin China stuff. Try and get a vinyl that uses 3m adhesive. I bought mine from Mossyokgraphics. It is pretty labor intensive, but totally doable. Watch a lot of youtube videos and just take you time. Good luck.,Jerry

@2mountainfish hows the rough and hood holding up? Any cracking?

I removed a wrap off a shop van once and it was a nightmare. The vinyl on the roof had dried and cracked into thousands of pieces.

I didn't vinyl the roof. I painted it with Plasti-dip rubberized paint. The hood is doing just fine. The only problem I am having is some bubbling along one of my body lines. It was one of the first panels I did and didn't wipe it down just before I applied the vinyl, therefore it is starting to lift a little bit. That is another reason I went with a camo pattern, it hides the flaws.

Great thread! I really enjoyed the interior tear down pictures. I need to figure out how to clean my seats. They are all (except driver seat bottom) in real good shape just dirty. Pretty impressive that you took the skins off to pressure wash, that is a lot of work. Keep it up!

A local design shop did them. Truck was ar Camelback Toyota, Murf may know the exact details on the stripes
The name of the company is FAST TRACK DESIGNS - ask for Sean and mention the retro stripes he did for Brians Land Cruiser. He said of 6 companies he called this was the only guy who knew what he was doing. (623) 780-1168
