After viewing Loud's LED thread, I had the urge to update most of the the bulbs behind my gauges to LEDs. No more dull lookin' gauges at night.

Bulbs replaced were the speedometer, tach, fuel, water, oil, and battery. Gear shift indicators, turn signals, and brights were updated as well. Didn't feel the need to change other bulbs such as VSC/TRAC, ABS, Brake, etc.

To remove the instrument panel, gently pull the black cluster panel finish towards you. It is fastened via clips and shouldn't break. The black panel houses the dimmer switch which can either be disconnected or just swung out of the way.

Unscrew the 2 black screws at the top and bottom corners of the instrument panel. Next, loosen the 2 bigger gold captive screws at the bottom of the inst. panel. Once loose, gently pull the panel towards you. If it doesn't move freely towards you, you need to further loosen the screws as they are connected to wire harness connectors behind the inst. panel.

Remove the glass inst. panel cover and top of the steering column cover. (thx Loud) You should now be able to slide the inst. panel to the left of the steering wheel.

Shift indicator lights were replaced with this Type B
from autolumination.com: $3.49 ea.

I plan to change these as they are TOO BRIGHT at night.

All other bulbs. V-LEDS.com #74 6k white: $6.99/pair

Keyring light also takes the same #74 bulb which I switched out too.

Thank you for the detailed description of how to pull the cluster! I always have a low-grade phobia about pulling these for some reason...

Just got a reply, not dimmable

If it's too good to be true...

*EDIT* These LED's are dimmable. I just installed them and they dim perfectly. And they're less than 1/10th the price of those previously used in this thread!

Ya, I should've checked before I posted. Sorry to get your hopes up!

Most people aren't aware that some LEDs aren't dimmable. Since these were marketed as dash replacements one would "assume" they would be dimmable.

The Chinese miss a lot of details...

Lex, see image below of the 3K bulbs purchased from here: http://www.ledlight.com/t5-mini-wedge-canbus-3-led-3528-smd.aspx (fairly inexpensive). Keep in mind that I only changed the 6 bulbs that illuminate the gauge cluster, and I'm not sure that the two center lights are working. Also, I don't think I had the lights turned up all the way, and the "P" light (still the original incandescent) is over powering...

The picture looks pretty good, but I should clarify that the white sections actually have a very slight pink or rose tint to them. It's not much (and no one would notice it but me), but it is there even though the pic doesn't show it; I can only presume that the camera on my phone adjusted for the light, etc. and made the white part look more white than it is. Regardless, even with the very slight pink tint (it is very slight), I am happier with it than the blue I got from the other lights (maybe the blue is cool to some, but I just want to see my gauges better). I just don't want you to assume it will look as good as the picture, but it is still pretty good.

Also, notice how faint my speedometer needle is, the picture makes it look worse than it is, but from the looks of the picture I am guessing that my two center lights are not working. I tried one of them (the two center lights) both ways (polarization), but couldn't tell if it was on or not and finally just put it all back together.

Hope this helps, again I was much happier with these lights that the bluish ones. Let me know what you end up doing and if you have any thoughts on why my speedo needle is so dim (I suspect my two center lights are not on...).

Hello
How is your P light do bright? Mine is out, is it a white bulb behind a green filter or a green bulb?

SO quick question.

I am new to LCs and have a 2000 LC that is maybe 4 days old for me and I noticed and suspected I have a few light bulbs out. Both seat heaters, hazard red is out, rear vent window switches, "D" is out... (Guess that's a good thing) well the thing I can't seem to be sure on is my gauges in the main cluster all look pretty warm white in color with red needles. And the radio and HVAC are all green. Are the condoms in my gauges that worn and faded out or did my LC have a completely different gauge color when compared to the other lights?

Yep, dash gauges are a warm white, & for the most part, misc switches/buttons, HVAC, & stereo are green (from the factory).

Wow, thanks.

Kind of shocks me honestly... Wonder why they did that?

What year did they make them all the same color?

My previous 98 LX, my son's 00 LC, and my current 06 LX are all the same way.

If it really bothers you, swap the bulbs out.

Naw,

I'm getting all new bulbs in a few weeks just wanted to be sure.

Figured just replace them all with new stock units if I'm removing the gauge package.

Guess in my time with Honda, Acura, and BMW I never saw or at least didn't notice two distinct light colors when it came to gauges and clusters. Now the ambient lighting was all mostly blue but a real soft blue.

Appreciate you all, I'm learning a ton. I just can't get over how flipping solid and fun it is to drive the land cruiser I have now.

Someone had asked for a "consolidated" list of all LEDs in the UZJ100. From my experience updating the dash in my 2000 LC, here is my parts list, with each bulb/part number. All items were sourced from SuperBrightLEDS.com

** I had issues finding polarity for some of the dash lamps and gave up on LED. In those places I reinstalled new 74-LL incandescent bulbs.
** I also kept the D light mod, so you really only need 5 lamps for PRND2L indicator in the dash

Finally, I found it infinitely easier to remove/install the cluster by removing the steering wheel. YMMV

Dude you rock!

I have a cart full of factory bulbs waiting to be ordered but I just switched out my glove box light for a cheap LED 74 base.

Really thinking about trying out 6 LEDs for my gauges to see if I like it.
