Paint process on the backing plates.

2x coats Rust Reformer
2x coats Rusty metal Primer
4x coats of the Roll Bar and Chassis VHT

Striped these down and repainted from mini truck red. It’s funny because on my 60 build I did the same in reverse and stripped the gold for red.

Centered the knuckles

That took a little bit of a process to get the measurements and to get the process dialed.

I figured I did both sides 2 each before I felt comfortable comfortable with the results:

Haven’t been able to find a AISIN waterpump w/o the oil cooler provisions. So I’ll be sourcing the oil cooler stuff from a 60 and adding it.

For reference later

@TheNeek thought it looked a little crusty. What do you guys think? 😆

Pro Tip: getting those ubolts to be the perfect fit for your spring plates can be a bummer. Not any more! Our space age composite u bolt adjuster will get you to the exact spec w/in a fraction of a millimeter. Operators and standing by to take your call now.

sick little 3x mountain logoon the oil cooler bracket. This was from a Toyota supplier, wondering who though. I feel like I just read about it recently on

Gaskets needed to swap out.

Where'd you find the springs? What shocks are you going with?

Springs and shocks are ProComp. A local 4wd shop closed its doors as the owner retired and they auctioned the remaining inventory off. I picked them up for under $400

I can look up the stock number if that helps.

Found some sick BMW seats for the 40. What are the thoughts on Mustard and Tan?

These Khul seats literally “fell in my lap”

Question is:

Stay stock and black... or Tan and Aftermarket.

Pretty sure I know what should happen on this one..

Will be ordering a center floor pan. From Real Steel

need to source a trans tunnel / dog house as the edges are pretty far gone on this one.

Only snapped off 2 bolts in the process of removing the gas tank cover.

Kinda wins the “First Impression Rose” for the nicest part on the truck.

Working on sourcing a used/replacement tank.

CCOT aftermarket looks pretty close and will be cheaper than a OEM one. Any thoughts on quality issues with those?

Nice work Dave. The CCOT metal tank fits and works well and is reasonably priced. Post up a wanted add for an OEM one too, I picked a very nice condition used tank in the classified for less than the CCOT tank.

Good idea Steve. I had a friend send me one that was posted yesterday. Shipping may be a bear as it’s in AL.

I’ve been running the CCOT steel tank since late 2016 and have been happy with it. It looked and felt oem as far as quality goes.

Thanks! It looks really close from the photos

PSA: Always wire wheel before ordering replacement body parts.

Ordered the center pan from RealSteel now thinking replace would be easier than repair.

Under the tank doesn’t look bad at all. But the front floor board/seat mount bracket is pretty rough.

Repair or replace? Keep in mind novice welder.

I think I would replace the tank area and cut some patches for the floor area. Those mostly flat areas should be pretty easy to cut some patches for. Either way, you gotta weld. It’s the cutting and shaping that is difficult.

yah, mostly concerned with the shape on the trans hump that is almost completely gone.

Going to order the center and passenger Floor pan and hope to move on. Trans hump will have to wait until end of summer.

SAS4 is getting close...
